well, its hard to explain but the best example I can give is perhaps its that same thing that makes most guys want a shiny car and not one that looks beat up,,,,

I am low maintenance and not speaking for myself, I have often driven a more economical and dependable car that wasnt flashy. I am just trying to take a guess at the answer to why shallow/asthetic standards still are applied to so many things,,,and people

I think you will find most people go by looks, there has be an attraction.

Actually i disagree. I find women to be far less concerned with looks than men are. With men it can be all about the looks, but with women, they often want something else. Maybe you lack that something else. It is probably confidence.

Even the most highly evolved non specific gender...human....is visual...and responds to visual stimulation...of their particular preference.

Ironically men are equally as visually selective..

is that shallow?

Only for those who feel that they may not make the cut...bigsmile

Shallow is a great way to sort the wheat from the chaff...an extra qualifier..laugh

why would anyone (guy are gal) want to be with someone they aren't attracted to? Why does that make them shallow automatically?

Attraction is a part of it. So is personality and what's on the inside.

True and also you have to remember you're on a site that people are mostly going based off your photos.

Someone may read your profile but again anyone could say they love animals, long walks on the beach and a glass a wine but in all reality they're only a cat person, they go to the beach just for that sea shell collection but hate the water and only like making wine not drinking it.

I'm a sucker for a shallow cool hat...it means I am more visually stimulating and attract more attention.....

...and people giving me a wider berth with a weird look in their eye!noway

Honestly I belive it depends on the woman . I myself have an idea of what turns me on and off in a man , granted looks arent top on my list but everyone wants the physical attraction paired with the mental and spirtual . sometimes a man who feels he is not compatible with the specific wants of a woman he likes may call her shallow . I say if you feel there is something about you , personally you would like to change go for it or maybe you need to be more confident in the person you are.

I dont speak for every female but for me a man who is funny , open and has an air of lets say "swag" about him is an absolute turn on.

No disrespect to the OP, but if you choose to differ from 'normal' appearance, and dress/look like a goth, a punk, a rocker, or whatever, then you arent gonna fit into many peoples criteria. I wouldnt date a goth girl even if she was attractive. Not my scene.

I agree with Dan. I've found that it's less about looks than it is about indoctrination.
