Topic: Short, somewhat unflattering summary of Christianity | |
---|---|
I thought this an interesting summary of some of the main beliefs in Christianity. I realize non-fundamentalists may not agree on all points - such as the magical tree being literal. Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
Christianity: The belief that Jesus was the son of God, sacrificed for our sins. And was sent to save the world whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have ever lasting life. everlasting life? is that something we want? Would depend on the person i guess. Do you want to live for ever with your loved ones? or would you rather just be a memory or would you rather make more memories with your loved ones in heaven. Take a sec to think about that Heaven there is no sickness, there is no death, there is no troubles, there is nothing bad in heaven. Only joy and happiness. You make the choice my friend, it's in your hands. Will we be allowed to masturbate? I find joy in that too! Of course I need to die early because if I live to be 90 that thing won't work anymore in "heaven"...Viagra available the Godgreens? Egads man! That is a physical pleasure and of course not because masturbating is lust. You may not be lusting after a specific person, but you're lusting for sex. So therefor no masturbating wouldn't be in heaven. How about free parking? I lust for free parking! Now what kind of question is that? You really think we'll be driving cars and all that? We'll have no need for cars my friend, this mortal body and everything will decay after we pass away on this earth. We won't have an exact physical form. We'll be with God with our trueselves, our spirits. But we like our cars! This place isn't sounding too good so far...what else do you get? Will there be TGI Fridays? Is not tipping forgivable? The other religion that you wage war with gives 72 virgins...so far they win out with that one but I bet date night is expensive. Well, I haven't seen proof positive that they will be female virgins, so I never converted. For all I know, there would be 72 homely young "martyrs" waiting for me. Add me into the mix and we have 72 virgins for everybody! (all 73 of us "righteous" ones) This right here is the biggest difference between Christianity and other beliefs. Christianity offers love after we pass away on this earth, and other beliefs offer lustful pleasures. So what do you want? You want just lustful things, or the truely great things in life? Love, trust, companionship, and so on. |

Interesting analogy of the story line of Christianity. Of course, none of it is true. Christianity was created by man to control man in mass. What little truth made it into the bible was the quirk of the story teller adding some reality to the fantasy. As for the perception of heaven portrayed here on this thread, it sounds to me like man created heaven because he has a desire to hold onto all the he feels he possesses, one example, his family, forever. Instead of the healthy and freeing approach of releasing those we love to be free as they should be even in life. There are just some really mentally unhealthy concepts to most religions. They promote unhealthy mentality. So heaven doesn't sound good to you.... hmmmmmm........ No disease, no sickness, no pain, and no much other feelings and things we are faced with on this earth, doesn't sound good to you? hmmm... I'm guessing you would rather just be a memory of someone rather then spend eternity with them? Feeling love and joy from everyone around you all the time doesn't sound good? Never having one worry or feel any pain ever again doesn't sound good? Just mentally unhealthy concepts?........ What's so unhealthy about that? What's so hard about receiving this? Pretty much boils down to do not cause harm to others and you'll receive this gift......... what's so hard about that? And what will you have to miss out on to acheive such? |

How many modern day Christians truly believe that people become possessed by 'evil spirits'? Sigh. I have friends who do. Actually, most of my current acquaintances do. I'll stick my neck out and admit to believing it also... In my defence, I'm gullible as all hell. Anyways, here's why I give "possesion" the classification of "plausible". 1. I believe in God... That pretty much leaves me wide open for angels, demons and spirits. 2. I've spoken to many people who have claimed to have seen "ghosts". 3. I've read about the paranormal and watched shows about it. And last: The power of the mind. I differentiate between "real" and "reality". It is as if someone who witnesses a blue car do a hit-and-run, claims seeing a red car. To them, the red car is "real", to us, red is not "reality". But one must distinguish truthfulness of anyone claiming "possesion" and that is pretty hard to do with any person. The mind can make it "real", but it cannot change "reality". As a side note, hypnosis is a form of "possesion" in my eyes. One common thing I've noticed about those who have been hypnotised is that they all tell me they've had nightmares afterwards. Some attributed it to the hypnosis, and others weren't sure till after I suggested that there may have been a relation. As a Christian, giving up control of your mind is a no-no. Also as a Christian, I have no need to fear any demon, evil spirit or ghost. So those who are "possessed", had to invite the spirit into themselves. As another side note, there are many who frequent these boards who regularly perform rituals where they "manifest" or "invoke" their gods of godesses, all of which technically should be called "possesion". |

When you accept Jesus as Lord and savior you are pretty much possessed by the holy spirit in a sence. That's why there's a different aroma around a christian compared to some person that is anti Christian in everyway. Because the anti christ has allowed Satan to "possess" them and the christian has allowed christ to "possess" them. |

Again, heaven is brought down to earth. So why wouldn't you be able to enjoy the things you enjoy in this life, fishing, ice scating, painting, and so on. |

Because when you marry someone, that person will be your spouse in heaven as well. Marriage isn't just an earth thing, it is for eternity. |

I John 3:2 "Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is." So, if we are to be like Christ, doesn't it also include our ability to remember and recognize other people, just like Christ will be able to remember and recognize them? |

I'll break down each part of your post to give a better and more clear picture of heaven. 1. will be no marriage or family in heaven - I've previousely posted verses supporting marriage is forever. 2. I won't even allow myself to be possesed by Jesus - It's not exactly being possessed like the normal concept of being possessed. You let Christ into your heart and Christ will direct your actions to how you should act and behave. He does this through our conscience and that's where the feeling of guilt comes from. That's why most people have that guilty feeling when treating someone badly and or going to steal something, and many other incodents. 3. I'm that sure about keeping control of my mind - You will ALWAYS have control of your mind and the actions you take, that is what judgement is for. Would make judgement pointless if Jesus had controlled people all their lives. We controll ourselves, do our own actions, and so on. |

Here again you misquote or misinterpret you little bible thing. "What most people call "heaven" is actually an eternal city which the Bible calls the "new Jerusalem" (Revelation 21:2). The eternal city is described like this: "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new.'" (Revelation 21:3-5) The new Jerusalem will be the eternal home of God's people. Of this place, the Bible says that "nothing unclean and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in [Jesus'] book of life" (Revelation 21:27). We are told that all people will undergo a bodily resurrection from the dead, and all will appear before the judgment seat of Christ (Revelation 20:11-13). Though Jesus initially came to the earth as a Savior, He will now sit as Judge. Those whose names are not found written in his book of life will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14-15). The idea that everyone will go to heaven and see their relatives is not a biblical idea at all. Jesus said that only those who believe in Him would find life, because "no one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). In Revelation 7:9 we are told that, in heaven, there will be a multitude of people from every tribe, language, people and nation who will have eternal life because of their faith in Jesus. Those who have rejected God will not be with Him." Sorry, doubt there will be that drug you do there...might want to try rehab before you go to heaven or you'll arrive with the DT's...oops. |

There is a difference between what people call Christianity and what it truly is. Christianty survived 300 years of persecution before Romans turned it into something I can comfortably say is not Christianity anymore. I'm Christian and I believe that there will be no family, no "loved ones" in heaven as well as no possesions. I'm pretty sure there's a verse in the Bible about it, just not sure where right now... I'm like you, i don't know the exact verses. But that's the true meaning of marriage and why there is no such thing has divorce. Because when you marry someone, that person will be your spouse in heaven as well. Marriage isn't just an earth thing, it is for eternity. Actually, I thought we disagree on a few of these things. It's my belief there will be no marriage or family in heaven. All will be equal, sexless even. I won't even allow myself to be possesed by Jesus, I'm that sure about keeping control of my mind. ========================================== Matthew 19:5-6 'And that a man will leave his father and mother, and be forever united to his wife. The two shall become one - no longer two, but one in matrimony! And no man may divorce what God has joined together ============================================= Nottice the AND BE FOREVER UNITED TO HIS WIFE. AND NO MAN MAY DIVORCE WHAT GOD HAS JOINED TOGETHER. But heaven and earth shall pass away, doesn't "forever" end with time? No forever does not have an end. Revelations 21:1 - And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea Nottice even though as you mentioned heaven and earth shall pass away, there will be a new heaven and earth. Of course not EVERYONE will be there. But who am i to judge on who gets to feel the joy of heaven and who doesn't? And why try to make this personal at the end? LOL. I don't do drugs or do anything to defile the temple of God. |
