First of all, it wouldn't take anything as dramatic as a fierce magnetic storm to collapse society. It would probably happen with something like the failure of the world's monetary system which is currently based on the US dollar. Fear of the dollar's instability is causing nations to consider other currencies for a base.

Most of the world's economy is based, in one way or another, on oil. A major disruption in the oil supply could cause oil prices to spike to the point where transportation by oil based machinery starts a domino failure. Once a business closes it's doors from high oil prices the doors are still shut when the prices drop.

Since much of the instability of currency has been caused by high/unstable oil prices, both currency and transportation could fail together.

We no longer grow food close to where it is eaten as in times past.

People would not be worrying about their cell phone service with no food to feed their children. Next time at the grocery store look to see where the non wheat and corn food items come from. Man does not live by bread alone.

Well, I plan on personally starting the first real panic. Maybe some looting, a little arson (just a small town, like maybe Toledo). You know, have some fun with it!!

What's the point of being thrown back into the dark ages if we don't have some good old fashioned panicking in the street?

happy happy

Oooooo yeah, looting, good idea. We can go score some new chit we won't be able to use anyway...I mean since it will be 'dark'. Great idea, thanks.

Naw, I'd take useful junk, like sporting equipment (I'm gonna need a bat if I'm looting) or maybe raid the local Farm and Home for the hand tools (and matches). OHH!! I'll need to raid the local museum for a bunch of those old school things that we don't use anymore. Fortunately for me, the neighbor has horses I'll be raiding there first!!

I'm thinking make-up and hair care products...,a girl can never have too much of that stuff, timeless, even during a 'dark' time.

I'm not bad at fishing. I know how to find mushrooms and nuts. I'll be fine. I already cook over fire at least once a week, so I got that going for me. Hmm, anyone up for long pig? laugh

People who actually do proper jobs like farmers, carpenters, etc. will be top of the heap again. Which is nice, in a way.

The good news is that anyone who has ever predicted the downfall of human civilization has been wrong. It's hard to argue with a hit rate of 0%.

Wouldn't be able to see their faces for the 'junk' they would be cramming in their mouths.

True hunger will cause humans to eat anything. It is a survival trait.

Unfortunately, due to humanities inablity to think for themselves, we'll have something like another book-burning Library of Alexandria, and blitz the knowledge because priests and religionists told the survivors to do so.
