yes for at least the last 35 years

right now I dance - do yoga - mixed martial arts, and some light nautilus/handweights, cycling & walking but not all in one day. I have a rotational schedule, a diet that is much healthier that most

and yes I really do everything I have said

I ran my fastest 5K when I was in my 40s and learned to roller blade at 45

Lol....I wonder how many people are really doing what they say they are doing?

As well as I wonder who maybe doing the workout yet still eating like crap? I for one am!! I love my cheeseburgers!!

HA HA HA!!!

Discipline people. Discipline!!!

I was a slacker this week due to preparing for my preliminary exam!
Did water cardio monday & some walking, but no dedicated cardio since then!

Couldn't eat much from Wednesday to Friday due to stress so lived off strawberries and a couple protein shakes.

It is a time honored Aggie tradition to have a burger & beer at the chicken (Dixie Chicken) after being admitted to PhD candidacy and I did not rebel laugh I enjoyed my cheeseburger, 3 beers, one each of my favorite shots, and an Irish tea to celebrate!!!!

You are correct sir! However, other than water cardio & yoga...I hate working out indoors. Treadmills, ellipticals, weights, sit ups, etc all bore me to death! I like to get out & move :) Took the dogs for a nice hike across the pasture, through the woods, down to the river, walked the sandbar, & hiked back on a different trail yesterday.

I have realized lately that walking a brisk pace when I hoof it across campus gets some extra cardio (20 mins/day). The new yoga class I am doing now also incorporates cardio. I walked for about 3 hrs today at Chilifest so I don't feel so bad for the beers & corn dog I had...LOL:) My heart rate stayed @ about 65% the entire time (really like the HR monitor).

msfox...I enjoyed reading your pm and hope I am still that active when I grow up :) Water cardio is really easy on the joints and you can work all your muscles (even the ones you never knew you had-LOL)

Holly...what did you do for exercise? Do you plan to get back into it when the weather gets better?

Oh yeah...the energy therapy helps to raise metabolism and is useful for treatment of cancer, metabolic disorders such as IR and diabetes, and other disorders involving chronic pain, etc!

I was just venting. People give so many excuses not to be active. It is just to easy once you find something you enjoy and see results. Finding it and gathering up the initiative to find that fun activity can be a challenge. Just like any thing new, don't knock it till you try it.

I totally agree about not needing memberships & lads of equipment, we just differ in how we like to work out. Weights, resistance, etc has it's place for sure!

I prefer cardio because I like to move around & also trying to up my metabolism rather than build muscle & such. Luckily, I live in
Texas & the weather doesn't put too much of a strain on the things I like to do :)

Not all of us are lucky to have decent weather as here in winter -20 to -40 is the norm. Roads are bad and we get hit with lots of blizzards. I work at home in my basement doing cycling, rowing, weight training, kick boxing, & crunches. So all aspects of working out are covered. Of course in the nice weather I walk and ride bike. I am up every morning at 5:30 doing this. My motivation is my health. Lots of people in their 50s overweight, have heart problems, and have diabetes because of poor diet and not exercising. Yes, it takes disicpline to do eat right and get up early in the morning but my health is worth it. I just had a check up and found my heart rate was 50 so yes the exercise is certainly worth it. I do believe no pain; no gain.

I really pushed it yesterday and today...it hurts so good!

Actually think I tweaked something in my right hip, but the pain comes & goes so I think it'll be OK! No pain-no gain, right?

Took things a little slow today but still walked a mile and a half on campus and about the same with the doggies this evening. It was a really nice day outside!

What do you do for exercise, how often, how intense?

Do you do it for stress relief or to stay in shape (or both)?

What type of work-out do you like and how intense???

Love it/Hate it?

any other comments....

I walk my dog every day for thirty minutes and then do random stuff whenever I feel like it. Exercise dvds. I am not a fanatic about it but I know I need to do it for my health so I do. I don't really do it to lose weight because I do love myself the way I am but since quitting smoking I have gained a little and am not completely happy with that so if the weight comes off I will not be mad. I do know I will never be skinny unless I am dying of some incurable disease so that is not even an option hopefully.

Every morning around 5am go running 2 get my day started.
Yoga 2 times a week :)

I switch up activities (except yoga) depending on what time of the year it is. Summer I will do some water aerobics.

Wow,120 kilos is a lot of weight. I am only bench pressing 38 kilos. Guess I better train harder.

what are you training for?
I know people lift for fitness and refer back to it as training. But curious what the goal is.

I stand instead of sit at work while I am at the keyboard.

I do squats while I type. Sometimes one-legged squats.
