I'd find it helpful to know why the friend stopping speaking. Did they have a fight or is the friend just too busy or something? If someone gets mad at me for no reason, I'm not rewarding them with a gift, whether I promised it or not.

lets say you have a best friend. and she asks you to make a painting for her. so you do. but you're not going to let her see it or know what it's of til you're done. and throughout the whole process you keep telling her she will eventually get it. you keep working on it. and you promise her that no matter what, even if it's ten years from now, you WILL give her this painting because it's hers. but then she completely stops talking to you. she just ignores you. haven't heard from her in over a month. do you still give it to her? I'm actually in that situation. I told my friend I would give her my dream journal when I die. She stopped talking to me (which is not the first time) and I no longer want the back & forth and have let her go. So my answer is NO. I have no reason to believe she wants to have anything to do with me. The deal (promise) is off when someone stops communication.
