Topic: Defunding Planned Parenthood: A good move?

Here is what's funny. I had recently gone to the store to purchase some condoms. I could not find them anywhere within the store. So I go to the pharmacy to ask where to find them. They had recently moved them near the counter and locked up. I was surprised for this recent move, and expressed this to the clerk. She says that they were being stolen too many times, so it was what was needed to happen. I explained that if ANYTHING was to be stolen from a store, wouldn't this be the one item to be less critical over? If anything, these people who are immature enough to steal condoms are probably also immature enough to not use one if not accessible.

Now, please do not get me wrong. I do not condone stealing ONE BIT. However, there are far too many other things that do not have security tags, nor locked up that are just as small, and cost just as much as condoms. I just would have these ***** steal the condoms if it may prevent another unwanted child into this world to where I may have to pay for out of my taxes.

Yes, this (condoms) is just a smidgen of what they in the article are referring to. However, I feel it still serves within the same principle of what people are willing to do (or not do in this matter) to still have sex with or without the proper protection or care afterwards.

Now, here is a question.... What would be cheaper for the state? Abortions or the morning after pill? Just a thought. Perhaps if the morning after pill was more accessible and cheaper, women may use this to prevent abortions if abortions are what is the main focus within the state's minds. Just a thought.

somehow I doubt it, accessibility to birth control didnt decrease the numbers of unwanted pregnancies,,if anything, there are far more now than before

I think the more 'outs' we give people, the more apt they are to take them for granted instead of planning in the first place,,,

Perhaps I may have misread your post. Are you suggesting getting rid of these "outs" will prevent the situation from getting even more out of hand than it is now? I do agree, it is completely out of control. However, if they are irresponsible enough to not do the right thing when the help is clearly there already, then they may eventually stop their ways? I personally do not think so. If anything, I believe what I had suggest thus far would work great, along with the proper education along with it.

Now, with that said, yes it may take a few more tax dollars to accomplish this, however not as much as how the current system is set up. And this is only suggested to help save the state money, as well as help prevent irresponsible people from making other hardworking taxpayers from paying for their mistakes.

My god how ignorant I see some people being. First of all Population control is part of what they do. I know women who got birth control through them and never had to resort to abortions. Likewise they are about STD prevention. Besides, it was the Democratic committees that were funding abortions in Africa as part of their foreign aid programs.

So some of you want to do away with an organization that does help more than harm? Well how many of you want to encourage a return of Dr. Coat Hangar? I am curious to see what your answers to the dilemma of not having a service like this available? We just keep popping out unwanted pregnancies? And we point a finger and say "Look at how many black babies they kill!" Lets all jump the racism bandwagon again! In Redding most of the women visiting there were and are WHITE! I knew two people up there that worked in Planned Parenthood.

Real constructive criticism here!

whoa Not!whoa

So basically, it's okay that they help kill 50% of the conceived black babies because they hand out condoms and sometimes kill white babies too. That's some amazing logic there.

And here you are citing something that is not a fact, has no factual basis, and is begin twisted into a racial issue for bogus reasons!

Way to go. Take the one social program that is trying to do something positive and make it into a horror show!

Sorry but your comments lost all credibility when you and others dragged race into this issue!

How about coming up with some real evil like ACORN perpetrated? Then you might have something. But this whole, "they kill black babies" argument is wasting breath! There is NO basis of fact for this. Just loaded statistics by Pro Lifers!

Way to go, take a woman's choice away!

The religious who want to keep each and every fetus growing into a fully developed baby, and being delivered into poverty and the arms of an un willing young mother.....why don't YOU step up and care for this child if you want it here so much!

We can NOT take a way a woman's right to choose...EVER!

http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/vs/2009sum.pdf

In NYC in 2009, there were 87,273 abortions. 40,798 were of black children.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/06/us/06abortion.html

In 2006, 57.4 percent of the abortions in Georgia were performed on black women, even though blacks make up about 30 percent of the population, according to the most recent figures from the federal Centers for Disease Control. Of the 37 states that reported abortion data by race, Georgia was second only to New York and Texas in the number of abortions performed on black women. Only Mississippi and Maryland reported a higher percentage of abortions going to black women than Georgia.

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss6001a1.htm?s_cid=ss6001a1_w

Among women from the 37 areas that reported race for 2007, white women (including Hispanic and non-Hispanic white women) accounted for the largest percentage (55.9%) of abortions; black women accounted for 36.5% and women of other racial groups for 7.6% of abortions (Table 12). Black women had higher abortion rates and ratios than white women and women of other races (Table 12). Among the 27 reporting areas that provided data every year during 1998--2007, the percentage distribution of abortions by race changed little; although abortions among women in the other racial category increased, the percentage remained low (Table 13). Abortion rates decreased during 2006--2007 among women from all racial groups, continuing the long-term decrease during 1998--2007 that had been interrupted by a 1-year increase during 2005--2006. However, because the increase in abortion rates during 2005--2006 had been much greater for white women (4%) than for black women (1%), the abortion rate was 2% higher for white women in 2007 than it had been in 2005 but 1% lower than it had been for black women. Abortion ratios also decreased during 2006--2007 among women from all racial groups, with a larger cumulative decrease during 2005--2007 among black women (7%) compared with white women (2%) (Table 13).

Please keep in mind that while 36.5% of the total abortions are performed of black women, blacks only make up 12.6% of the population.

It's not a right, it's fanaticism. Rights come only from God, which our founders were wise enough to acknowledge. I look forward to the day when it's safe to be a fetus.

If Anything, they should increase the services offered.

Above all, it should be mandatory to learn basic needs of an infant. You'd be surprised at the amount of people that have..... NOT A CLUE about how to raise a healthy child.

it would be interesting to research why? we have survived this long without mandating people 'learn' basic infant care, so why are we at a point now that it should be a formal and mandatory requirement?

what has happened to us that we are so ill prepared to take care of another,,,?

balance would be a start, IMHO

there is an oversaturation in society, media, and even the medical community to encourage and promote sex,, with no realistic view of all the consequences of the decision to have sex

sex is glamourized far too much and the responsibilities of sex and its consequences barely ever mentioned in comparison,,,

this is a problem for me,,,

when we discard a solution based upon flawed logic like this

there are plenty of situations that cause 'unwanted' pregnancy beyond just abuse, that would make a balance of information about the consequences a valid and reasonable place to start in reducing them

yet people toss the idea aside , just like they toss aside the idea of abstinence

,,,,'its gonna happen anyway', is kind of one of the philosophies that gained momentum when I was a child and started to create a culture of adults who no longer teach children in an effort to avoid mistakes but just find ways to make the consequences of any mistakes they make less,,,

its not a healthy balance , in my opinion, only worrying about what to do AFTER something bad happens and doing so little to try to help prevent some of the bad from happening in the first place

Teaching abstinence.

Legalize drugs and prostitution and deal out extreme punishments to those who sell drugs to minors or use minors as prostitutes

Re-stigmatize "single mother-hood by choice".

Reform welfare, so that it's not a superior alternative to marriage and it's not desirable to have multiple children.

Research cheaper, safer and more effective methods of birth control.

There are also plenty of other alternatives that aren't nearly so drastic as killing a child.

I'm no expert, but here's my take

Theory 1..... is the advancement of "social virtual worlds"..... friends and internet distractions are creating an epidemic of people "loosing track of time" These days, it seems more important to ALWAYS be in touch with friends than actually spending time with children.

Theory 2..... is the ever changing world of nutrition, additives, preservatives and the sky high sugar intake. Juvenile diabetes and childhood obesity is at epic proportions.... and getting worse.

I dream of a day that children will not die a premature death because of parent stupidity and ignorance.

The pro-abortion lobby always goes to the most extreme rare cases to try to make their point. In debate, it's call "Appeal to Emotion". Law should be based on reason and fairness and they both scream that the aborted child has a much better claim to a hard luck case than their living mother.
