I have talked about just about everything on this club and in person with people, and from Zionism to Aliens...and here are my observations.

There are three subjects that will get you jumped on very quickly and those three are:

Anti-Zionism,
conspiracy theories about 9-11
and aliens and UFOs.

Compared to any other topics, even religions or Christianity, those three topics will get a barrage of out of control emotional responses from a small group of people.

It matters not how good the references or how much evidence is offered, these topics seem to cause panic in people.

I am beginning to wonder why.

I think I have a theory.

Here it is.

Ready for it?

okay.....

The twin towers were taken down with alien technology in the hands of evil Zionists who are trying to take over the world.

 laugh  bigsmile

Referencing other peoples opinions and using circumstantial evidence as the end all proof is what causes people to argue these posts.

If it were all as simple as you see things then they wouldn't be theories they would be the accepted narratives.

Being that in all cases mentioned above the lack of proof is the proof that keeps these ideas in the conspiracy theory realm..

There are ulterior motives in most cases when someone says there is a consensus or that something scientific is settled..

Take the climategate emails..

We heard for years that it was settled science and that we need to spend trillions to fill Al Gore and his buddies pockets with cash so he can save the world..

Guess what.. They were lying..

I am skeptical person by nature and by experience.

I do my own research.. I believe what I do by my own interpretation of the evidence.

My responses to your posts are void of emotion and based on what I find to be true.

We would have very few conspiracy theories if we had freedom of information.

There are conspiracies everywhere. So what is wrong speculating about them?

The term "conspiracy theory" has gotten a bad rap.

The governments own so-called 9-11 commission report is basically a conspiracy theory, and not a very convincing one.

We speculate because of the lack of information.

We need to keep asking as many awkward questions as possible.

There are some who do not ask but will question the questioners.

That is so true. Not only do they question the questioners, they get angry and rude with the questioners.

Its like what happens when you are in Church and you question the pastor or the Bible. People jump on you with the

"HOW DARE YOU QUESTION GOD!"

attitude.

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION YOUR GOVERNMENT.
HOW DARE YOU QUESTION YOUR MEDIA.

I happens in all sectors of society.

I have seen 250 men on a building site change their minds on a vote when they were asked to vote in front of a supervisor. Sad state of affairs

The reasons two of the three subjects you mention get "jumped" every time are very easy to understand..They hit many people where they live....

Anti-Zionism ....This is a link I really like, a letter written by Martin Luther King, Jr...He says it much better than I ever could....

"Anti-Zionism = Anti-Semitism"

- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

". . . You declare, my friend, that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist.' And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--this is God's own truth.
"Antisemitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. In this we are in full agreement. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently antisemitic, and ever will be so.

"Why is this? You know that Zionism is nothing less than the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land. The Jewish people, the Scriptures tell us, once enjoyed a flourishing Commonwealth in the Holy Land. From this they were expelled by the Roman tyrant, the same Romans who cruelly murdered Our Lord. Driven from their homeland, their nation in ashes, forced to wander the globe, the Jewish people time and again suffered the lash of whichever tyrant happened to rule over them.

"The Negro people, my friend, know what it is to suffer the torment of tyranny under rulers not of our choosing. Our brothers in Africa have begged, pleaded, requested--DEMANDED the recognition and realization of our inborn right to live in peace under our own sovereignty in our own country.

"How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this inalienable right of all mankind, to understand and support the right of the Jewish People to live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will exult in the fulfilment of God's promise, that his People should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land.

This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing less.

"And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is antisemitism.

"The antisemite rejoices at any opportunity to vent his malice. The times have made it unpopular, in the West, to proclaim openly a hatred of the Jews. This being the case, the antisemite must constantly seek new forms and forums for his poison. How he must revel in the new masquerade! He does not hate the Jews, he is just 'anti-Zionist'!

"My friend, I do not accuse you of deliberate antisemitism. I know you feel, as I do, a deep love of truth and justice and a revulsion for racism, prejudice, and discrimination. But I know you have been misled--as others have been--into thinking you can be 'anti-Zionist' and yet remain true to these heartfelt principles that you and I share.

Let my words echo in the depths of your soul: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--make no mistake about it."

From M.L. King Jr., "Letter to an Anti-Zionist Friend," Saturday Review_XLVII (Aug. 1967), p. 76.
Reprinted in M.L. King Jr., "This I Believe: Selections from the Writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."

9/11...Again, ultra sensitive subject to countless people...The "feelings" some people experience when they read about conspiracy theories or hear the words of those who believe the theories evoke responses that are emotion based and consist of anger, sadness, disgust, pain, and for some even invasion of privacy...These feelings are real and they are permanent...The topic will always be touchy, the debate heated...Common sense tells us this...When I visited Pearl Harbor, I did not expect to cry, I did...There were crowds of people so naturally I expected the normal amount of pushing, shoving, noise pollution you experience anywhere large crowds gather, there was none..People from all over the world were there, tourists like myself...They were somber, subdued, respectful, kind...Strangers smiled at strangers, people were polite, accommodating, respectful...It was a profound experience.....

I think discussing anti-zionism and 9/11 conspiracy theories is not the issue, the issue is how some people choose to discuss it.....

As to UFO's ...no comment one way or the other....

Jeanniebean,

You are confusing Freedom of Speech with Freedom FROM Speech. You have the right to say racist, ignorant things and the other Mingle2ers have the right to point out how stupid your beliefs are.

I'm glad I have the right to do that but I never say racists or ignorant things.

I am the most rational non-racist person on Mingle.

The Right to Free Speech,NOT the Right to Libel!

Libel is a tort not a crime, and it is only libel if it is NOT true.

How to prove libel

There are several ways a person must go about proving that libel has taken place. For example, in the United States, the person first must prove that the statement was false. Second, that person must prove that the statement caused harm. And, third, they must prove that the statement was made without adequate research into the truthfulness of the statement. These steps are for an ordinary citizen. In the case of a celebrity or public official trying to prove libel, they must prove the first three steps, and must (in the United States) prove the statement was made with the intent to do harm, or with reckless disregard for the truth. Usually specifically referred to as "proving malice".[17]

Sorry you couldn't be more wrong. There is PLENTY of proof (particularly with regards to 9-11) that shows things aren't as they appear. The reason it stays in the conspiracy realm? If people knew the REAL truth about what goes on in their government and the crimes committed by it over the years, their entire balance of power could crumble down in a heap very quickly.

They can't let that happen, so they must suppress the truth and truth speakers, doing everything they can to discredit them and make them look crazy. It's the only way they can keep any control, they won't win a debate because the facts will prove them wrong.

It's really as simple as that.

As an aside, you speak of ulterior motives being at play with consensus views and what not. How do you know then that those in power don't have any in choosing what to run or not run, and how to paint a particular piece of news? Do you believe they are going to tell you the absolute truth without question? You got another thing coming if that's the case.

In response to your post about what King said about anti-Zionism equals anti-anti-Semitism.

You (and he) can't be more wrong!!

It is that mistaken belief that is the greatest cause of Jewish persecution and hatred of Jews.

I do not hate Jews. I have no reason to hate Jews. I do not care what they believe or what God they worship. They are no different than me. I love that Jews don't go around trying to gain converts to their religion like Muslims and Christians do.

Zionism is a political movement. Most people today know that. Some don't.

Millions of Jews are anti-Zionist and say that it is a heresy and that Israel is illegitimate. What say you to them? That they are anti-Semitic? Ridiculous.

I am not a fan of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. anyway. He was a womanizer and a dishonest man in my opinion.
