Just today i had some dude near me basically end the conversation right after i admitted this. Would you still date someone you were into if they didn't have a car?

I find most people are as deep as dew. Primarily this is what scares me the most about people.

When I was young, I knew that I had no way to test the water without getting wet.

It is a paradox, we waste our life trying to find our life. Rather, the paradox is only apparent as it is a measure of our own stupidity. I just found that no matter how smart I can get, when it comes to someone else, I am dumber than a box of rocks.

we have had that question come up from time to time and people who say no usually say it's because they do not want to end up driving their GF/BF everywhere

quite honestly, I can understand that especially if he has kids and has to drive to see them or drive them around

he may want to see that you are able to be a bit more independent - but it is kind of rude to just cut someone off - also if you are a college student , he should understand that most dorm students don't have cars

just take it as one of his preferences - don;t take it too personally

I'm not sure what I would do - but I would strongly prefer my guy had his own vehicle

I'd say it depends where you live. If you're in a city that has excellent public transportation and easy access to taxi's and such, then his expecting you to have a car might seem silly. If you're farther out, or small town or whatever, then I could see him thinking its a problem.

I know for me, it has come down to the guy wanting to be driven all over. If I'm going that way originally, its not a problem, but otherwise its inconvienent, and I have no problem saying so.

It wouldn't bother me as long as they didn't want to take me up in their helicopter. Seriously, I have a fear of heights.

That is a tough question...I guess it depends on why he doesn't have a car? I know a lot of people that live in bigger cities that would rather take the bus then own a car.
I do know that I would not become a taxi...I already raised one son and I have a 17 year old. I truly believe that some people do take advantage of people and once you start taking people places, they seem to expect it.
Please don't take me wrong, I do not judge people by what they have and what they don't have....everyone goes through tough times. IF you think you have a good friend or you have a great boyfriend, try it and see if it works, but if you feel like he is taking advantage of you...RUN!!!!

I don't have a car, but i don't expect my lover to have one either. Love means so much more to me than whether someone has a damn car or not :)A guy who will truly want me for being me, will not care whether i have a car either.

It's not really a factor. I have so many other criteria I could use to exclude someone.

Nope; I live in a big city and public transport is not always available in certain areas as well as the weather dropping to -40 here, so a car is necessary. I also don't wish to be a taxi driver for someone.
