Finding someone that you can tolerate for longer than 2 weeks is already difficult enough, I can't possibly see how imposing some form of arithmomania is going to improve anyone's chances..

That's why patience is a virtue I hold dear above all else. Take your time. There's no rush. I'm young, I got plenty of time ahead of me. I'm still not finished doing the things I've always wanted to do. I prefer a strong friendship as the basis, it could create something more worthwhile.

Now, you are a smart woman.

Its all I got

I don't really understand why people get bent out of shape about someone's age preferences.
same here but i will say it creeps me out when i see guys with much younger women to me it sends a message n i tend to think they aint mature enough for a woman thier own age not sayin thats the case but more often than not it is likewise when a woman is old enough to be a guy grandmother thats creepy too

I think I would feel embarassed being with a younger man. Can you imagine sitting in restaurant getting ready to order and the waiter/waitress asks "what is your son having?" I saw a couple that I mistaken for father and daughter which was what the poor waitress thought too while the man chewed her out.

What do they say about assumptions?

That in most cases assumptions are a reasonable way to understand a situation, so that you'll know how to react?

That didn't work out so well in the example she gave.

I prefer stoicism to patience..

A person can be patient, but the spontaneity of emotion can overwhelm even the most ardent practitioner..

I feel like they should have classes for this at my school. I'd actually learn something.

Its hard because you never know what kind of guy or girl you're going to meet to put this to the test.

Proclivities of an individual are very wide ranging. You would have to take classes until you are 85 and everything you learned up until then would become moot..

scared So what you're saying is we're all doomed? Sheesh, NOW I know this.

Human habits can be quite incorrigible.

This leads me back to the stoicism that I practice.

Keeping emotion in check and not allowing the random nonsensical urge to over analyze something works 100% of the time at least 40% of the time.

Believe it when I say I am the complete opposite. Its more like 80% and yes I do need to calm down...maybe a vacation.

A vacation to an undisclosed destination.

I am going to Rio for Carnival..

Should be rather relaxing..

Yeah, that right? Gotta go with childhood dreams here. Blue waters, nice skies, tropics, ahhh heaven.

I was going to inquire about the missing blue font, but you fixed it..

I like South America.. Brazil is a bit of a hedonist oasis with its blue water and anything goes beach culture..

You walk into a restaurant full of people. There are 10 couples that are younger women and much older men. If you assumed that those 10 couples were father and daughter, I submit that you would be right more than 50% of the time. Assumptions should always be substituted for inferences when new information becomes available. So if you noticed one of those couples kiss on the lips, your assumption that they were father and daughter would most likely be wrong and should be adjusted to be "they are dating". Now you notice that the man and the woman both have on wedding rings. It gets more difficult here. They could be cheating or married. If you generally think that people don't publicly cheat, you might assume that they are married to one another.

Unless I was getting paid to conduct a study on this topic I would not spend one iota of time doing any of the things you mentioned.

I reckon you are accustomed to fast service when you dine out.

I prefer to spend my time focusing on the person I am dining with.

Maybe the next time I go out I will walk in with a sheet of paper write down a bunch of assumptions and after a few drinks I'll walk up and ask everyone if my assumptions were correct..

Maybe bars and restaurants could change happy hour to assumption hour..

What fun that would be..

Spiders scenario didnt include a date.

I already addressed his scenario.

I should just pretend to care and play along for the fun of it?

certainly chum. I appreciate your insights.

I haven't been called chum in... well.. ever..

If, let's say for scenario sake, I was in a restaurant and someone walked up and said, " hey chum " I would probably assume it was derogatory and smash a beer bottle over his head.

Can we all see how making assumptions can be a little problematic?

What's your preferred age range for dating? I have never really considered dating anyone more than 5 years younger than me, but I wonder if I am eliminating too many people. I mean, if one of my best friends can be in a relationship with someone so much younger and make it work...maybe.

I just worry that there are too many stages in life and if two people are not in those same stages it could cause a lot of problems.

I would probably do 5-7 years either side. I just prefer dating someone of a similiar age. In saying that, I may consider someone who doesn't fit into my age category but that would depend on the person.

I think my cutoff is ten years younger than me. Although, I do admit that if I met someone around her mid 20's and she and I just hit it off, then I would take the chance to see what could happen. As far as older goes? Well, I never thought about a woman around her 50's but since I have met some beautiful women around that age, I have adjusted this. The thing I look for is that connection. I mean, my parents have ten years between them and they have been together 32 years. Who's to say someone at age 25 would be perfect for me? Or someone around 48-50? Basically....Goof goes with the flow.

This is a dodge. I know you don't want to admit I'm right, so I won't press the issue. If you are interested in knowing why all people make assumptions, you should look into the developmental psychology of schema.

haha..

You only have a 1/3 probability of being correct with each couple.

That means out of the first 3 couples the Law of Probability says you get 1 correct.

That is 3 out of 9 .. 33%... Even if the last couple is a father/ daughter that is 40%..

The chances of that last couple being father/ daughter is 11% so I say its more like 3/10 for 30%..

Now unless you want to tell me psychology trumps mathematics I suggest you recant your claim of "You know I am correct and don't want to admit it".
