It's clear that many Americans -- including Christians don't know their Bible. Just look at the numbers from a recent study:

More than 60 percent of Americans can't name either half of the Ten Commandments or the four Gospels of the New Testament.
Some 80 percent including "born again" Christians believe that "God helps those who help themselves" is a direct quote from the Bible.
And 31 percent believe a good person can earn his/her way into heaven.
According to a recent George Barna study, most self-proclaimed Christians don't believe that Satan or the Holy Spirit actually exist. And even though the Bible is very clear about the sinless nature of Christ, 22 percent believe that Jesus sinned while he was on the earth.

"I don't think he was sinless altogether, no," one young man said about Jesus.
"What do you base your belief on," we asked.
"My opinion," he said.

So what are the consequences of this on society?

"If you're Biblically illiterate, you'll fall into every kind of sin, and every kind of problem and that's the problem with our country, said, Dr. Vinson Synan, dean emeritus of the Regent University School of Divinity.

"If you know the Bible, if you know the Ten Commandments, they're warnings, so that we can live a wonderful life," he added.

I don't think believing those things makes them fake. Just uneducated in their faith.

So are you saying that a "real Christian" is not allowed to disagree with the Bible or have an opinion of their own?

In other words, the only true Christians are the ones who are totally obedient and totally agree with what (they think) the Bible says and have no opinions of their own?

That they are sheep who cannot think for themselves?

Is that what you are saying?

So what you are saying is that anyone who disagrees, or questions the Bible or the Pope or their pastor, or anyone who reasons and thinks on their own and has an opinion different from what they have been taught (according to the Bible) is not a real Christian?

I don't think there are any real Christians if that is the case.

What you are saying is that if you want to be a "real Christian" then you have to forget about having an opinion, and forget about thinking for yourself, just open your brain and let the Church of your choice pour the dogma in and accept it no matter how unreasonable and unbelievable it is.

Ridiculous.

Mind you, there are three major religions that base their beliefs on THE BIBLE including non-Christian religions of the Jewish and Islamic faiths. To add to that, there are thousands of different denominations of each.

You are not getting the point of the article. Statistics show 76% of Americans call themselves Christian. 60 percent of the people in this survey are unable to answer simple bible questions that are the basic concepts of the religion they believe in.

Yes, there is a big difference between not knowing and not agreeing.

I guess that is my point. Some have no faith since they have never read the Bible or go to Church, and still call themselves Christian. You have to at least know the basic principles.

I like pointing out to that the Bible clearly states that the 20th Commandment is thou shalt not boil a kid its mother's milk and that Noah took 7 of every clean animal on the ark.

Ya know I've never understood why those that do not believe in the bible are so worried about those that do.

If one chooses to believe in something it is their choice.

Same for those that don't believe in it.

Myself what ever I believe in I don't feel at any time I have to justify why I choose to believe .....whoa

Just because they are not educated as far as the bible goes and have not read it from cover to cover does not make them fake.

Besides that you can take 10 people that have read the bible from cover to cover and all have different opinions on how to decipher it. Would they as well be fake cause they don't all agree on the meanings?

Really? Why?

Why then, don't they make people pass a basic test then?

That would be fun.

Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself!
Wasn't that the Commandment?

1. I am not a Christian.
2. I asked questions never bashed others.
3. I am not bashing Christians who have studied the Bible.
4. Christians who know nothing about The Bible should not call themselves Christians.

All people who call themselves Christians probably know something about the Bible.

People who know NOTHING about the Bible would not even know to call themselves "Christians."

If a person would disagree with The Bible that means they actually read it lol. Every Denomination has its own interpretation. They don't have to read it in full. I am just talking about putting some effort into your beliefs. Everyone has a different interpretation of The Bible. But if you are a Christian or a believer in Judaism they would have to agree that is God word.

I think people sometimes call themselves "Christian" because it is a club that all their friends are in.

I don't really think they give their true beliefs much thought.

Most so-called Christians don't really believe that stuff.
