Sadly, the Drive-Inn Movie Theatre is very nearly a thing of the past.

About 4 months ago I went to one on a very memory-evoking date. The night was breezy and warm. The movie was Music and Lyrics. The date was special.

The drive-in is located 8 miles from where I live and is one of only two that is still up and running in the state of Arkansas.

For those of you who are too young to have experienced a drive-in date, I am sorry. For those of you who do remember going to one, I pose I these questions....

Do you miss them? Is there one in your state?

They shut down the one that was closest to me last year. The last weekend it was open I took my son and his girlfriend so they could have the experience!

there are two that i know of still in operation in the state of michigan. the drive ins were great when i was younger but they lost their appeal as i got older. they are still fun, just not the way they use to be.

I go to the other one in Marshall, Arkansas. I usually go and get my little sister or ask her if she wants to go. It used to be easier when we had the car with the back seat that came out. It was a lot easier than sitting in the tree above the fence. Usually I could get her to make something so we didn't have to buy anything at the concession stand. She also came in handy when I needed a pop or some candy and didn't have to leave the vehicle. It was always fun to watch the movie with the windshield wipers going and trying to figure out what was going on between the raindrops. It is also cool to park the truck when we would take a truck in backwards when we found a speaker that was still hanging on a pole that someone drive off and leave the speaker in the car.

Used to be special nights where they would only charge a buck for a carload of people...then seatbelts became the thing and it was a buck for everyone in a seatbelt...kinda killed the fun of jambing as many clowns as you could into a car!

Snuck is a very nostalgiac word! We used to do the same thing!

The location where the drive-in from my youth was, is now a Target store-and the kids who work inside have no idea what life was like for those of us who remember...

THE DRIVE-IN I WENT TO WAS IN 1980 OR 1981 AND WE WERE IN MOM AND DAD'S HORIZON THAT PLYMOUTH PUT OUT...IT WAS EASTER...THERE WERE JELLY BEANS AND MY YOUNGER BROTHER AND I WATCHED E.T. FROM THE BACK SEAT WHILE MOM AND DAD SAT IN THE FRONT. I REMEMBER BEING BORED TO TEARS EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT KEPT THROWING JELLY BEANS AT MY BROTHER. I DON'T REMEMBER THE END OF THE MOVIE...FELL ASLEEP!

Joshy44:

Trust me on this one....it doesn't get any better than a drive-inn date.....there's love in the air....and a speaker in the window........windows are fogged up, and the food is great! Not necessarily in that order...teehee...
