Do you think/believe that it is appropriate to text others while on a date with someone new? Is there a number or kind of acceptable texts? Assuming no emergency situation, when another is texting throughout the evening is that a sign, one way or the other, that s/he is not that interested in the date itself?

laugh

I don't even have my phone out on a date. Texting throughout a date is completely rude. So is talking on the phone. If they're distracted by their phone, there's no reason for me to be on a date with them.

Can't believe you don't take your phone on dates...for me it's a must for safety reasons alone.

It's a sign that he or she is not interested in exercising good manners because "constant" texting during a date is rudeness in the extreme....It's a sign of addiction....It's a sign of ADHD....It's a sign (to you) to look elsewhere unless you are looking for a person with these traits....Taking emergency calls from family is the only exception....Texting to socialize while on a date is BS...
are you saying you should not date someone just because they are ADHD?

I agree, its rude and would make me feel like walking out.
I do take my phone with me, just in case, but it stays in my purse and its not turned on.

Eh, it depends. If its periodic then I'd say I'll work on getting outta there asap. I think its only polite to leave them with the check at that point.

I feel when you make the decision to date you have to make sure your responsibilities are covered; children, parents, pets, work ect. before you go out.

Then you do what you feel is necessary to assure your own saftey; to me that would be having a phone in my pocket on vibrate only and staying in a public place where I am not solely depending on a phone.

I realize I may be the exception but I have a cell phone that is for my convienence not so I can be on anyone else's beck and call. I give the number to very few people and they respect my freedom.

But texting during a date is something I would not consider necessary and extreamly rude. Certainly grounds for not being extended another invitation from my host.

Does that mean absolutely no possiblity of interrruption exists ? No. But I feel obligated to accept only those calls that would be only from designated adults who clearly know what a real emergency is and respect my life enough to let me have a life.

Part of that is spending a reasonable amount of personal time developeing adult relationships be it a friend or a mate. If I expect to have a date respect me and my time then I feel like I have to afford them the same courtesy.

LOL I got a feeling you know better than some. What is sad are the number of people who don't know what it's not.

I think it is rude to use a cell phone in any way on a date save for certain circumstances... having to let someone know where you are, if something happened or to check up on a kids or a family member.

I keep mine off and away throughout a date and if I need to use it for some strange reason I will do it afterwards or excuse myself for a moment to take care of whatever it is. The texting during dates and stuff is pretty common though... I have had it done on me before, and I see people doing it pretty often to each other. What gets me is the people on a date who are both busy texting their friends instead of talking to each other.

I agreed with you up until the point that texting on dates is pretty common. I cannot remember the last time I actually texted on a date... or when my date texted. I don't see it as being common, fortunately.

That's not what I said. I said I don't have my phone out on dates, meaning I don't have it sitting on the table or take it out during a date, not that I don't have it with me. It's in my pocket or my purse.

I had a really strange date once, where the guy couldn't talk to me. He texted me! While sitting across the table. REALLY?? : (

Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't tolerate this. Had this happen once & I walked out.

I wonder if she noticed...
