Personally i wouldn't want one, but if people feel it will spice up their relationship i say go for it, i wouldn't be in one of them though that's for sure!

I see it as a rip off and dangerous behavior that sooner or later a lot of people get dragged into paying for because the related fall out.

But I don't want anyone analyzing and dictateing my life to me so if everyone is consenting it's their deal.

I just tell those that think I am going to bail them out if this kind of behavior ends in disaster don't come crying to me. I have cleaned up enough of my own messes without knowingly supporting something that has "S-T-U-P-I-D U-S-E-R" Relationship written all over it.

I have always thought these are the result of a failed marriage, the people stay together in an "Open Relationship" because it's another option to separation/divorce, and may be only temporary before finally breaking up. There can be a variety of reasons behind their choice, each to their own as they say, but it's not for me I would find it intolerable.

A man should be allowed as many women who can afford to take good care of him.

Bravo! Cause we men need many women to take care of us, tell us what to do, when to do it....and to give all that responsibility to just one woman is asking for so much. We can't throw all that on just one lady. It would be mean of us men to do that. laugh

I think it depends on so many various degrees.
The degree of seriousness you want to be in with your 'significant other'.
The degree of open relationship status you are both willing to take.
There are a lot of people out there who can handle being more open than others. I think security and jealousy have a lot to do with it.
I also think that there has to be an understanding and a belief that sex does not equal love.
Are you the type of person who believes that the 2 go hand in hand, or are you the type who can completely disconnect them from each other?

I didn't realize that "openness" (did I spell that right, lol) had different degrees to it. Hmmmmmmm. I should ask my next gf how her openness level is.

Seriously though....I actually agree with you. Sex does not equal love. Now, sex is enhanced when you are in love with someone. Has a different feeling to it. What an open relationship comes down to is can you and your partner handle it? Can the both of you deal with your partner engaging in sex (which can be intimate or can be just about getting your rocks off) with another person? Most people wanna believe they can handle it. And some can. But it takes an awful lot to do so.

It's not for me, but who's to say what works for someone else. If my partner suggested it, I would be looking for new partner, but that's just me.

Are open relationships anything like open faced sandwiches?

A slut is a slut no matter how you put it.

So you just made this thread to be judgmental toward people you disagree with. If you don't want an open relationship, don't have one. It's as simple as that. They work for some and don't work for others.

I can't wrap my head around the concept of it but that's just my personal opinion. Why be in a relationship if you really want to be single?

What a surprise, Billing2!! And there I was, thinking that you are just one simple, honest, run-of-the-mill polymysogynist of the many.

(Well, and coming up with a real word that has three Y-s in it is no little feat, either! And I don't mind saying so myself. After all, I should know best of all people exaclty how big or small a feat it is -- since I am the first to have done the job.)
