Neil Heslin, Father Of Newtown Victim, Heckled By Pro-Gun Activists (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Neil Heslin, the father of a 6-year-old boy who was slain in the Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14, stoically faced down pro-gun activists last night.

More than 1,000 people attended a hearing before the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Monday to share their views on gun control, USA Today reported. Among them was Heslin, who held a large framed picture of himself and his son Jesse as he urged officials to consider strengthening gun laws in Connecticut.

But as he gave his emotional testimony, pleading with lawmakers to improve mental health options and to ban assault weapons like the one Adam Lanza used to murder his child and 25 other people, his speech was interrupted by dozens of audience members, The Connecticut Post reported.

“I still can't see why any civilian, anybody in this room in fact, needs weapons of that sort. You're not going to use them for hunting, even for home protection," Heslin said.

Pro-gun activists responded by calling out: "Second Amendment!"

Undeterred, Heslin continued. "There are a lot of things that should be changed to prevent what happened."

Heslin's son, Jesse McCord Lewis, was described by friends as a happy child, The Post reported. A "little cowboy," Jesse reportedly liked to play with the fake horses at a local Western-themed restaurant. After he was shot and killed by Lanza, a line of police officers on horseback joined the motorcade at the boy's funeral.

"He was a boy that loved life. Lived it to the fullest…He was my son, he was my buddy, he was my best friend." Heslin said.

I picture my six year old son and daughters each time this issue comes up. I can't even imagine burying them. Let alone having to know their last moments were of terror as bullets ripped through their little bodies.....brings tears every time....

Sick, it is sick to hug the gun and forsake the child......

Why doesn't he demand tighter security at the school?

Why doesn't he want teachers trained to protect kids.

Not again! I could care less about other people's children! In all good honesty I could care less about humans in general! This is just more of the sickness of people trying to think they can change people by taking things away from them. I am concerned for my community! I am concerned for the state of my nation being eroded by all this trivial crap in comparison to the scope of the problems we face! I am sick of Children being used to act as a political shield or to garner votes.

YOUR gun control is an absolute removal of all guns. MY gun control is putting the shot where they belong. That parent put them self in the spotlight and got what they deserved. First of all what is wrong with police officers stationed at schools? Really nothing is wrong with that! What is wrong with Civil Defense training allowing people to likewise train in weapons safety and coordinating with local police? Nothing! What is wrong with integrating people into the police force so that community watches are not a joke or lead to a Trevon Martin shooting? Nothing!

So why does good common sense measures fly over your head so easily Willodraga? All you can do is post and say "ALL THESE POOR CHILDREN..." "Take guns away from people."

Now lets discuss human trafficking! How about child exploitation? How about the Child Sex industry? Shall we count child fatalities vs. Children living in a nightmare? How about children living with abusive parents? The GUN is the least of a child's worries considering all those messed up horney adults out there! You want to count statistics... I can aim some at you that shoot your theories of Gun Control right down the toilet.

Well, to the father who lost his kid in the shooting, This is what I would say, "Sorry for your loss but MAKE ANOTHER DAMN IT! Life itself is not safe. You think children had it off better 100 years ago when we didn't have all this gun stupidity going on in congress?"

I don't see anything proving your point here! All I see is more "CHILDREN ARE BEING HURT BY GUNS!" That argument unto itself is WEAK! Children are not being hurt by GUNS! They are being hurt by callous humans!

Second if a person is going to step up in public and offer up their solution to a problem, they should welcome criticism.

Shielding yourself from criticism using the emotional turmoil of a slain child is repugnant and should result in shame, not support.

Bad ideas are bad no matter who puts them forth, no matter who you are you need to realize when you step up in public you will be criticized for your opinions.

All these guys say they will protest for Gun-Free Zones.

The main problem with the OP is that there was no assault weapon used to kill the children at the Connecticut school. This is a lie created by the press for the purpose of assisting a gun ban.

There was no heckling involved.
The story was made up to push an agenda,
and to take advantage of the situation.

Wow, attacking the guy for being upset over what happened to his kid and not wanting it to happen again? That's pretty low.

I doubt most teachers want to be armed in school. Those I know think it's a bad idea. Then again, they're in Maryland and Virginia. Maybe it's different in Texas, though.
