Topic: Why are you here? ~ Honestly

Most are not here honestly for dating obviously so why are you here?

Most haven't even bothered to fill out their profile or put up even 1 photo.

So are you really here because you have nothing better to do than post a pretend life?

Are you here because it's a way to communicate with others while you pretend to want to date?

I live out in Death Valley National Park because of its beauty, I didn't think, at the time, about there not being any men my age when I chose to live here.

So internet dating seemed like a godsend to me.

But over the last decade most all I have found are phonies, people acting online one way but totally different in real life, & not in a good way.

They lied about the weight, height, age, job, living arrangements.

I just don't understand about all the lying. To me it seems that you'd want the person your meeting to be pleasantly surprised & not looking for a escape route.
That is for the few who do actually go out. I know most don't because they will be seen for the liar they are & not for who they pretended online to be.

I don't understand why anyone would want to spend their time all day pretending to be someone they're not unless their life is that meaningless because there is so much to do in real life.

It sucks for the serious people, most everyone I know give up on it after finding out 90% are just bored people living on the internet.
Even the paid sites, those who have the money join pay sites too pretending. I know as I'm on 3 of them too.

And the profiles that say "I'm just here for the forums", lol, if I had a good man I sure as heck wouldn't be living on the net.

Even if you don't reply to this post ask yourself... why am I here?

I'm here because I've met a lot of great people over the years that have touched my life in many wonderful ways.. some relationships have further developed in the real world and I'm enriched immeasurably by them.. others have moved on with their lives but come back every so often to 'check in 'n say hi' which is always worthy of smiles.. if by some chance I happen to cultivate a friendship with a guy that grows beyond that.. BONUS.. if not? I'll continue to enjoy my life and adventure regardless.. and share happy moments with friends..

in short.. I'm here with friends, making new ones, and having some laughs drinker

I've given up the idea of dating anyone from this site because there aren't enough active members living in my area. I'm hear to learn. There is an abundance of writers here.

I'm also here to find out whom I share similar interests with. I'm finding out who likes me based on thoughts revealed in my posts. It's so much easier to meet people here. I mean, consider the difficulty of starting conversations from scratch with complete strangers IRL. Seems like a lot of effort. Here, at least you know what is being talked about and you can express the thoughts that are relevant to a topic that you like.

I only read a profile when I want to send an email to someone.

I'm here because I'd been married for most of the last 2 decades, divorced my husband 10 months ago, joined dating sites 6 months ago because I live in a small town and there aren't any eligible men I'm interested in here. This is my first experience with online dating, and I've made some friends to talk with here and offline, but when it comes to wanting a sincere commitment, the men I've come to know here aren't looking for the same level of loyalty that I am. I know I've been out of the dating world for a long time and attitudes have changed a lot when it comes to fidelity, given the express lane to turn overs in the average relationship these days, but if you can't even find a man that claims interest in you to put you ahead of the other women on this site while you're still in the "very close friendship" phase, and are already talking about love and marriage, then you know you won't be their first priority if you do take the serious steps with them. So, I enjoy the forums, and connecting with like minds, while also looking forward to making new friends to talk with offline. No ulterior motives on my part... I'm an open book... Friendship anyone??? bigsmile waving

I have met so many good people on here, I would never leave this site. I have one special friend on here that we keep in contact and our lives are pretty much the same. He is easy to talk to because we are going through the same things and it helps to talk to someone that knows how to deal with it.
I would date someone here IF I met the right one BUT I am really not looking for that. My life is good the way it is so why change it?

I do enjoy the forums, it is good to read about peoples thoughts and ideas on a range of topics and questions, and to be able to add your own thoughts too. In addition, I am here in search of a lady, the perfect woman for me, whether or not that will ever happen on line to me only time will tell, but I am in no rush. I have previously spent a lot of time and money on paysites, which offer little more than this dating site, so I am very happy to be on here where it's free.

I would just like to say that here in England we have never eaten cat, but there is a lot of horsemeat in our diet at the moment.laugh

Great post! And you're right...It is hard to bring-up a wide variety of topics with people in "real life." (Strangers or even friends.) Everyone is busy and conversations may be limited to "basic things."

Well said....There are not many active members from my "Small Town America" eitherohwell ...When I joined, I was completely open to meeting people from everywhere, even those living abroad!noway Travel is my passion and I consider adding meeting cyber friends to my itinerary a huge positive!... This makes my travel more interesting and more fun and it opens doors that otherwise may not be opened!happy I think this attitude combined with the ability to be flexible now that I am retired and financially secure played a major roll in meeting and falling in love with a fellow member:heart: ...LDR are not for everyone, but for some of us who are at a point in life where we can accommodate them until circumstances enable a move by one or the other, they can be quite rewarding....Now that I am in a LDR, I use the site to stay in touch with friends, connect with other writers and poets, like Richard said to learn, and to feel a closer connection to my guy who also continues to participate on the boards...Life is good!! ...

Could not have said it any better.....

When I first found this site I was looking for a social site... Which this site at the time said it was a Social/Christian/Dating Site so decided to see what it was about....

I found the forums had a few rough times at first and did not know if I would like it or not... Then found that several in the forums was here for the same reason a little companionship and be able to interact with others about life, family & life...

I have actually met several from the site due to the forums as friends. So we all keep in touch here and try to get others to join in our yearly meets....bigsmile

Honestly if it was to happen I found more then a friend I would welcome that as well as long as they lived within my area...

But honestly I enjoy interacting with those from all over the world as friends....

I like a lot of the people I've met here, but I'm 100% sure I'd have nicer things to do if I had a boyfriend. smooched

I have discovered that the forums have a lot of fun, pleasant and intelligent men and women who have interesting things to say.

I originally signed up here thinking I might give online dating a try. After a couple of weeks of messaging with several people, I realized that I was not going to feel comfortable meeting online strangers for the first time on a date. Not eveything is for everyone.

Then I spent some time on the forums and realized I enjoyed meeting people more through this type of open conversation than messaging alone. I am still not comfortable with the idea of meeting anyone face to face just yet, but wonder if I met someone I really click with and am comfortable enough with, if I may end up changing my mind at some point in the future.

Besides, if I were not reading the threads and chatting with people here tonight, I’d just have my nose in a book anyway. Frankly, this is more interesting reading than the second chapter of, “The Pyramid Maker”. ..for now anyway.

When I joined 20 months ago, I was looking for my significant other. Now I realize that I'm not going to meet her online. I have a better chance of meeting someone if I just go out and meet people in person. Which I've been doing.

So these days, I'm mainly here for the forums and for the conversations I get to have with the friends I've made on this site.
