Off-duty cops in two counties in Alabama spent the weekend collecting saliva and blood samples from drivers at roadblocks.

According to Lt. Freddie Turrentine with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, drivers were asked to voluntarily offer samples of their saliva and blood for a study being conducted by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation.

The drivers were compensated for their samples.

"They've got big signs up that says 'paid volunteer survey' and if they want to participate they pull over there and they ask them questions and if they are willing to give them a mouth swab they give them $10 and if they are willing to give them a blood sample they give them $50. And if they don't do anything they drive off," Turrentine explained to The Daily Caller.

Comment: And if they don't do anything and drive off you can bet their license number is duly noted. Failure to submit to authority is highly suspicious behavior after all.

Turrentine said that St. Clair County had five roadblocks from Friday afternoon through the early morning hours of Sunday. He added that Bibb County also had roadblocks of this kind.

Turrentine said that Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs asked the county to participate and that the funding for the study is coming from the National Highway Safety Administration.

"What they are trying to do is 60 sites across the country," he said, explaining the study will be conducted from June to October and is meant to get a better understanding of inebriation patterns.

"They are trying to get 75,000 participants with anonymous donations of blood - and they don't know whose blood or whose swab it is - and they are trying to say, 'OK, after this hour at night, out of these 75,000 people 10 percent of them had alcohol in their blood or 12 percent of them had some kind of narcotic in their blood. That is all they're doing, for impaired driving,'" he explained.

Turrentine said he did not know how many people deputies sampled over the weekend but said that St. Clair County had completed its portion of the study and would not be putting up more roadblocks of that kind. He added that this was not the first time the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation had conducted a study in the county. The last such test was in 2007.

The Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation did not immediately respond to request for comment, nor did the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

The incident did cause a stir on social media with people voicing concern about the roadblocks.

Update - Tuesday 12:47 p.m. EST: After publication of this article, Bibb County Sheriff Keith Hannah offered more details about the roadblocks in his county Tuesday. Hannah told TheDC that there were five roadblocks in Bibb County this weekend. He stressed that the samples were given voluntarily and that this was not the first time the county had participated in a study of this kind.

"It was a voluntary thing and they were compensated if they gave a DNA sample or a blood sample. The study group compensated them for it. If the motorist wanted to participate they could. If they wanted to go on, they were free to do so," Hannah said Tuesday.

I used to think that you had nothing to worry about if you have nothing to hide, but now thanks to the Obama Administration targeting people who disagree with them or who don't believe in what they believe in I don't feel that way anymore.

Oh, make no mistake... the government intends to collect d.n.a data on everyone. This is just the beginning, those who offer voluntarily.. compensated with whose money?

The next step, is any driving infraction, which lands you in jail, even if you are not jailed, you will submit fingerprints, and you will give a d.n.a sample.

Do your homework, guys, i did.

Not to take this off topic, but to further prove my point, the government is collecting your phone records, public posts, and any other private information they can attain.

Furthermore, you must have and provide a birth certificate, in order to renew your driver license. You must also provide your social sec. card, and at least two pieces of mail to prove your residency.

My mother has had a driver license since she was 15 y/o, and because she was born at home, she had to jump through hoops to obtain a birth certificate. My mother is 76 years old, and i'm fairly certain she's not a terrorist.

Read on.. all of this, is due to "homeland security" which is a joke, and obummer is using it to build his private army.

Tried buying bullets lately? the shelves are empty. Why? Because homeland security has bought them all up, in fact, starting last year, and up til now, homeland security has purchased more ammunition, than the United States military uses in combat AND training in five years. Homeland security has ordered more, keeping ammo makers working overtime just to fill those orders...

That is because they had a plan, in case he gun ban failed.

The media will not tell you all of that. I'm even surprised, the media did post the cost of Obama's trip to Africa next month.. Relax, the price tag is only $100,000,000.00. Personally, i believe that could wait, since we owe trillions, and the American dollar is fast approaching the American .50 cent piece. In other words, your money is only worth half of what it was.

The trust level of government, as reported, is the lowest it's been in 40 years.

I could go further, but i'll leave you with this. If anyone truly believes obama is doing a good job, then you aren't being realistic, and you aren't looking at the negatives, or you simply choose to ignore the issue.

That is not to say that i choose to be negative. I do not. I'm actually a positive person, but i do know how to look from both angles, and when the bad begins to (and continues to) outweigh the good, then i have to conclude the outcome will only be negative.

ok so in order to get a document which proves IDENTITY,, you need a birth certificate, (And a secondary document ),, and how else would they VERIFY an identity before issuing a drivers license?

next, how cna an infraction that lands you in jail, NOT JAIL YOU?
has it not always been policy before being booked into jail to be fingerprinted? is it that hard to stay out of jail or accept consequence of being fingerprinted (in case of any future crime)?

all these policies were in place BEFORE the advent of homeland security,,,,

anyone with internet should have no problem buying a gun or ammunition,,,or finding places that have them for sale

the media also 'reported' the assumption that OBamas trip to INdia would cost 200 million per day,,lol

'reporting' only takes some sensational claim that people are prone to believe or at least talk about,,,

or not understand

trips to Africa arent cheap, that doesnt mean Presidents should not take them,,,

As far as taking expensive trips, hasn't he ever heard of skype or the Internet?

Everyone else has relationships all over the world without taking an expensive trip.
