Here is an excerpt from a Hollywood Reporter story titled "A&E Welcomes Phil Robertson Back to 'Duck Dynasty'".

"Phil Robertson, the patriarch of A&E's Duck Dynasty clan who was suspended from his hit reality series on Dec. 18 following some incendiary comments about gay people, won't be put on hiatus after all.

The network and the Robertson family announced Friday that Phil will still be part of the series -- and since he didn't miss any filming, his temporary suspension will have no effect on the upcoming fifth season."

In short, Phil Robertson was never really suspended from the show Duck Dynasty.

Gay people wasn't just about gay people. It was about people that sleep with this woman and that woman. Women that sleep with this man and that man. So basicly any one who had sex with more than one person. But beast only a real sick person would do that

Do not forget what he said about blacks

"I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field.... they're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people ... ' Not a word! Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say, Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues." Phil Robertson

Maybe he should quote Pope Francis.

As long as the problems of the poor are not radically resolved by rejecting the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation and by attacking the structural causes of inequality, no solution will be found for the world’s problems or, for that matter, to any problems,

That's a problem because ...?

lol,my understanding is that he said it to imply that slavery and jim crow wasn't so bad,,lol

but lots of people believe that, and he is entitled to his opinion and his job if the sponsors and audience want to keep watching,,,

he was born in 1946, so IM sure he never really 'heard' any slaves say anything,,lol but he may have been drawing from his experience with 'the help' , who knows...

They did not complain to the white dude because they probably would have been lynched. We should not be surprised though when an ignorant red neck says something stupid.........

A lot of ASSUMING going on. Maybe some should do some research about Phil and how he grew up. And acctually read what he said and not what some have spun what he said as to what they think he meant by what he said.

A&E caved in? laugh
A&E didn't cave in, they've been running the best FREE advertising campaign I have ever seen.

This is just more unpaid for advertising generated by "reinstating" someone who isn't working right now and wasn't working when he was put on a 9 day "indefinite hiatus".

Was that punishment the A&E version of tough love? laugh

upon review, the man grew up poor himself, had no help and no slaves,,, so perhaps the quote about blacks represented some view he has about being able to be poor and happy and his correlation of that view as it applied to black people,,,,

The media reported snippets of what was actually said. A lot was out of context and blown out of proportion

Here is what Phil Robertson actually says in the GQ interview:

I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field.... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people'- not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.

In other words, the black Americans Phil worked with when he was young were people who depended on God for their security, not the government.

Oh, here is the part of the interview that GLAAD didn't like:

What, in your mind, is sinful?

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men," he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers-they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

Notice that Phil mentions homosexual behavior, not homosexual feelings.

Then there is the part that GLAAD apparently overlooked:

As far as Phil is concerned, he was literally born again. Old Phil-the guy with the booze and the pills-died a long time ago, and New Phil sees no need to apologize for him: "We never, ever judge someone on who's going to heaven, hell. That's the Almighty's job. We just love 'em, give 'em the good news about Jesus-whether they're homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort 'em out later, you see what I'm saying?"

In summary, the interview of Phil was protested by GLAAD because that organization doesn't want anyone to believe in a God who might actually be opposed to sex between two people of the same gender ... the God of Judaism and Christianity that is.

What Phil said about the black Americans of his youth became controversial because he dared to say that they were happy because the were godly people who didn't depend on the government for their security. The black Americans of Phil's youth had as their motto "In God We Trust", not "In Government We Trust".

You see what I'm saying? indifferent

IM sure many whites trusted in God too,, while receiving assistance from their networks of family, community, or government,,,

rarely do I see anyone tell those who complain about what the government is or isn't doing right that they should just shut up and be happy because of their Faith in God

rarely do I see anyone tell those who go on about what this political figure or that one did or didn't do right, to just hush up and sing and be happy because of God

people are still human, and will still feel, that they can be happy congregating with each other is really no implication that they cant also have private times when they are scared, or sad, or insecure

I do agree spirituality gets some of us through quite a lot, I don't agree that it is relevant to whether or not there should be EQUAL opportunity and access to resources and protection of 'rights', or whether as Christians we should not feel it is our DUTY to care about and give back what we can to help those who are less fortunate

I Certainly don't think its Christian like to just kind of blow off their needs by assuming its ok because they appear 'happy'....

I understand what he was saying, one can be poor and happy

but I think its another absolute that ignores that no one , rich or poor, is happy ALL THE TIME< and tht things like starving, or being cold, or being unsafe, or having our children suffer,, makes it a bit HARDER to be happy all the time,,,,
