Nope wouldn't have left. I of course would've been sitting and eating also, cause I love Chinese buffet places. Key thing is not to eat a lot of rice right away....

Nope I wouldn't and none of my family is like that. If I finished first I would enjoy taking and visiting who I'm with

I went out for a meal with my mother today and what tends to happen with her is that she can't just relax and sit and chat, so she hassles waiters about when the food is coming as if it's a fast food place. I brought half of my steak home and I'm going to have it on a sandwich for my dinner. What I don't eat, I'll give to the dog. It's just like that with my family anyway. I'm used to it. I'm not too bothered but if it's a date I'm cool with the service being slow and taking my time because it gives you more of a chance to chat and get to know each other. I can talk to my mum anytime.

How late were you?..15 mins. and hour. Family.. depends on if I like them or not and how often I see em.

A date I would have to guage that one.

Girlfriend/wife prolly not, you know em by that point and accepted they eat slow..unless its 30 chews per bite. then we would go to one of them fancy resturants where the portions are small.

Today I went to an all you can eat Chinese buffet restaurant with my family. I am a slow eater and there was many different kinds of food. I had to get there late because I worked and traffic was bad. My family finished before me so they left me at the table by myself.

This made me wonder if you would leave a family member, friend or a date because they were a slow eater.

Would you do it?

It depends upon whether or not I had made plans for after the dinner.

Let me clarify some things. Dinner was set at 6:30 pm. I got there at 6:45. Most of the family was there at 6 pm. They were already on their second helping when I arrived. My mom kept telling me to get more because it is all you can eat. I only ate mostly seafood because I do not get it very often. Even though I love salads, steak, ribs and regular Chinese food, I ignored these so that I focused only on the items that I do not get often or have not tried before. I did this out of respect for my family, knowing that I am a slow eater. My family told me to hurry up because they wanted to go to the grocery store after dinner. I was just finishing up my plate of desserts (mostly fruit). My family left me at the table. You cannot take any "to go boxes" because it is all you can eat. My sister who drove most of my family came back and sat with me for the rest of the five minutes for me to finish. Everyone else waited in the parking lot. I thought this was very rude that my family left me like that.

I was just curious how many people would have done that. Thank you so much for your responses. I appreciate you taking the time to post your opinion!

I would have waited.. IMO that would be VERY rude to walk out on ANYone be it family, friend OR date.. I'd grab a lil something extra to munch on (maybe a salad) or just a cup of tea.. and enjoy the moment more of their company.. life's NOT about the destination.. it's about the journey!! drinks

Are they smokers and went an hour with out one and couldn't hold out for anout couple minutes. Does your sis not trust em with the keys if she had to go unlock the doors then come back and sit with you till you were done.

odd man out here

my personal opinion is when 'meeting' people someplace, aach person should feel free to leave when they are ready

if we went altogether as ONE unit,, it might be different, but this just sounds like everyone getting together at one place on their own schedules,,,

I would personally not want people to linger about and watch me finish eating if they had already been done with their meals,,

;) In that case, tell ur fam to go ahead & pick u up afterwards. Maybe they already take u as a slow eater.

Personally, I don't do buffet esp chinese food, but if tables were turn - I rather NOT feel rush while eating.
