one should shop the perimeter isles in the grocery stores to obtain foods in their simplest forms and try to avoid packaged foods (and those companies). Also buy from local vendors and farm markets.
doesn't mean there won't be some rice a roni on my shelf, but it's not a dietary mainstay... |

As a farmer, I despise, hate, loath, etc., these monstrous corporations. If they have their way...and I don't see how they can be stopped...they will control all the world's food, from it's simplest form to when you eat it. Control the food=control the world.
They are more than half way there already. ![]() |

But even then one must always be diligent as they sneak trash in there too. Also, has anyone noticed the absolute trash that fresh produce has become? It seems over the past few years, everything looks like it was the dregs of last seasons harvest. |

As the owners of the FDA, they set all the rules. |

It seems over the past few years, everything looks like it was the dregs of last seasons harvest. I find the opposite. Everything in my supermarket is so much bigger, brighter and just different. Bananas are getting massive, and carrots now come in a variety of colours. I've stopped eating strawberries altogether because they look just too perfect. Imagine all the chemicals on them to make them look like that, and to make them grow sizes they are not suppose to be, scary! I like my veggies and fruits small with some blemishes ...at least they are real that way. But these near perfect specimens of fresh fruit and veggies are poison. |

Almost 10 years ago, when I was a municipal councillor, every municipality in the province passed a bylaw, prohibiting the growing of GMO wheat. I'm not a big fan of forcing people to do anything, but it felt good poking a stick in Monsanto's eye. |

The cross pollination on most of that stuff just destroys any chance of none GMO food. Look at Mexico. almost total destruction of the heirloom corn Mexico so prizes and they even have a ban on GMO. Say an interesting documentary a week or so ago about health effects of modified food. There was one study of the plants that generate their own pesticide with the plants genes. They don't have enough info yet on the total effects, but it's being done anyway. But one of he concerns are the genes mutating and crossing over into human cells. A prospect that would allow out bodies to poison itself. But did you know that there are a number of reports that Monsanto does not serve any GMO food in it's own cafeteria, something about not living long enough to spend all that money they make. |

Your comprehension on this matter seems to be on the same level as the global warming issue. The subject of plant patents may sound like a boring one, but it affects every single one of us and the food we eat. The resurgence of interest in plant patents stems from the fact that "new and improved," genetically modified crops are eligible for patents, and these plants' patents have a significant impact on farming practices and the future of traditional, independent farmers across the country. You cannot patent anything in nature, it belongs to the universe. Only man made items can be patented, how about we order up some of those patented plants for you. Maybe one of those idiots over at NASA will bring them over for ya in between rigging global temperature charts and signing off on the IPCC co2 is dangerous reports. |

PLANT BREEDERS RIGHTS
Under this set of rules and guidelines (laws) Companies that develope a new variety of a crop, have total legal control over seed produced. This means a farmer must buy seed from that company, and cannot sell seed from his crop to another producer. If they catch you growing a crop, and haven't bought seed from them, you will end up in court, and you will pay dearly. A farmer can keep seed from his own crop, and use it for planting. But they (agro corporations) would like to stop that also. This would be done by introducing a 'Terminator' gene into the plant. This gene causes the seed from the plant to be sterile...therefore, it will not germinate and produce a plant. This is just a small part of a very big picture. A very ugly picture. |

And due to a Supreme Court decision, if a GMO plant contaminates a farmers crop, the farmer's crop is subject to the whim of the GMO owner since the genes are patented. http://ecowatch.com/2013/12/24/farmers-monsanto-gmo-contamination/ http://www.fooddemocracynow.org/blog/2014/jan/13/supreme_court_denies_farmers_protection_Monsanto/ A contaminated "natural plant" becomes a patented Monsanto product. Contamination is occurring all over the world. |
