The birth rate in Japan has dropped dramatically as recent studies show that much of the population under thirty years old is rejecting relationships and losing interest in sex all together, creating the so-called "celibacy syndrome". Is this problem being exaggerated for effect, or is the issue so serious that it may cause Japan to perish into extinction? On the Lip News, Lissette Padilla and Elliot Hill discuss the role that technology and traditional morals are playing in this recent trend, as well as the many cultural reasons for why this problem is so specific to Japan.

You know, the world is over-populated, Japan is right up there.

I notice, over time, that over-population alone can spur many
changes, politically and culturally.

This could be a part of that.

The world is not over populated, at least not if you compare uninhabited areas to population. That aside, Japan is having an issue because they are not pro-creating and do not allow much in the way of immigration into the country. For example, no Muslim immigrants are allowed and they produce. However in a country like Japan Muslims would over utilize government services beyond the revenue they would generate. It's the same in many European countries and the US. The producers aren't procreating and the people who suck off the government are. Simple as that. It's simple economics. That's why Japan is trying to encourage their citizens to have babies.

I think a lot has to do with Asian culture. The younger crowd doesn't want to ( or can't afford to) go thru the hassles that are involved with the traditional courting and marriage process. And for the most part , they can't just " up and marry".. that's taboo. So they stay single

In China, with the one kid birth control the ratio of men to women is now over 3 to 1, creating a huge problem for males. In order to " attract" a female they have to have a lot to offer.. good job.. apartment.. and the males family has to pay the females family.. both entire families are involved in the mate choosing process.. its almost like a business deal.. many times love has nothing to do with it.

And in China if you are over 28 years old and not married... you are branded as a left over.

This has lead to many social problems as males who can not meet those requirements.. have zero chance of attracting a mate.

The world is overpopulated, comparing uninhabited areas to population isn't an accurate reflection of how many people the world could sustain as there's good reason why some areas remain uninhabited.

Many Yamashita decendants here in my society and they are a good people. Philippines and Japaness now a days have a good relationship. I do not want say anything against them but I will say this to answer your question. I do not want to say "many" but I will say some of there males are sadist. The womans prefer to find a job and stay and live with there parents than to get married. This is only i can say. Don't ask me more. Search more for some of the reason.

I agree some men are sadist, especially Japanese men. I imagine the reason could be they are insecure about their penis size.

Estelle.......are you speaking from experience or quoting a study??? That was very inappropriate to label 'especially Japanese men' and to even insinuate about their insecurities.
Have you ever had relationships with Japanese men, or even Asian men?

It has a lot to do with the Asian culture where pre-marital sex is still frowned upon. But mostly, it has to do with the pressures both men & women face in their career or work life. Women who are successful may shun marriage as their independence and having children might hamper their career advancements, while men put into too long hours, and are probably unable to 'afford' marriage.... think 'dowry' which is still practiced here in Asia.

Even where I am some young couples are avoiding having children or trying to keep it at 1 or the most 2 kids..... their reason: too expensive!

Ok, sorry for my ignorance maybe it isn't about penis size. I guess a better question would be why is Japan so over populated (at least it in Tokyo)?

Sorry Misty, but from your posts I've seen
you've done nothing but "turn Japanese".
