When I was 13 I had already developed an interest in making things. My dad, was working a construction job at the time, and supplied me with scrap material from job sites. I (with some help) constructed this monstrosity of a tree fort. Unfortunately I didn't heed the warnings to not leave boards with nails driven through them lying around. A rusty 16D nail would've went all the way through my right foot, if the bone hadn't stopped it. The wound became infected and osteomyelitis (bone infection) set in. It got pretty bad and I almost lost my foot. Fortunately a great surgeon was able to successfully remove the infected flesh and bone. Thankfully I still have a fully functional right foot, and a large callused scar on the instep as a reminder.

Share the stories behind your scars.

I was 7, playing with my sibs, when I stepped into the drain, fell and hit my head on the flower pot. My mum carried me in the cab, and she had blood all over her clothes and the towel pressed on my wound was seeping with blood. I did not even cry.....either from shock, or it was not painful, I don't know.....had 2 stitches. But the scar is just near the hairline, so, only noticeable if you look.

Sometimes when I am acting a little crazy..... I attribute it to that knock!laugh laugh

It's likely the scars healed better than they would have if it had happened when you were older.

It always seems to be the small wounds that bleed the most. A hammer dropped on my head when I was a toddler... might explain a few things.

myself living on a farm when I was a boy... jump right on that same size nail.. son of a box of raisins...
then later on not only once not only twice.. but on three separate occasions.. I had my. head torn open by wild dogs... I must smell like bacon..lol.... when I was living in the Rocky Mountains.. I was doing a little freestyle climbing... missed my finger hold.... and fell about 35 feet.. cracked my jaw on a jagged rock..
... to this day I can't eat rock candy..lol..... in a drunken rage... I put my foot.. my barefoot.. threw a plate glass window... severing my big toe...
.... I have worked in construction off and on.... once while using the skill saw... it kicked out of my.. grip.. just enough to slice into my.... work boot.
... slicing into the meaty part... right below my big toe......
on another occasion.. I was using a pneumatic nailer... to put up roof trusses... shot the nail right through the 2 by 6..... into my thumb....
. it came through the bottom part of my thumb.. and left a very nice little hole in my thumbnail.... hurt worse than getting hit by a hammer..lol..

I was a kid showing off by walking on a ten foot fence and fell off and landed on a broken wine bottle and sliced all the skin off my kneecap. They stitched it all back together but the scar has always been visible .I have a small scar on my hand that I got when I slipped and fell out of a boat that was on shore on to another broken bottle and cut my hand to the bone. Its those damn bottles that do me in I mean where are the tin cans when you need them.laugh laugh

I was cutting old hardwood on a circular saw.....using quite some pressure, not know it was rotten in the middle.....when the blade hit the soft wood I fell into the saw slicing my entire wrist open.....
Walked 2 kilometres to the next farmhouse before collapsing on the doorstep....

Power saws can be brutal... especially in remote locations. I worked with a guy who cut off three fingers on a 10" table saw. The closest call I've had using one was nicking my thumb because the blade was too high.

Which story do you want? For most of my scars I try to have at least three stories: The truth, the B.S. story, and the total B.S. story. I generally give people the option of which one they want, but they are only allowed to ever hear one!

The truth is always more interesting to me than fiction... well almost always.

I only have 2 scars. one on the inside of my right leg just below the knee.
It cured me of the habit of letting myself flop down on any handy surface. I flopped down on the spare bed in my brother's room and ripped my leg open on a wire sticking out of the mattress. worse than the pain in my leg was the tetanus shot.
my cousin was visiting from LA and she's expressive and touchy feely. she kept tapping my arm while we were sight seeing.

Sounds a bit like my grandpa's technique for easing pain, he'd offer to smack your toe with a hammer. It'll hurt like hell... but you'll forget about the other pain. noway

We must have had the same incompetent doctor, only difference is mine is more like 10 inches.

Okay... fiction is more interesting than fact in this scenario. laugh
