Baptized Catholic, never once was I taught to fear God?

It just sounds negative I guess, God fearing, meh

Isn't there enough to fear in this world already?

christians read from the bible and the concept of fearing God is all through it,,,

Certain Christians LIVE by the book, in the last 60 years, we've made strides towards distancing ourselves from the hypocrisy and social detriment of following such a book that closely. The idea is foreign to me.

God Fearing Blah! flowerforyou

to each their own

If I can fear snakes and thugs , why shouldn't I have fear for the one powerful enough to create them?

fear is a life saver,, but , to reiterate

to each their own

Fearing in this case also means reverence or deep respect

I think it is because of the adage that people who feared God seemed more kind and moral. but those who say they follow God can also be very cruel. God is love and true love should have no unkindness in dates or marriage.

But there is nothing in the bible scriptures that are hypocritical. What is good for me is good for you, what is wrong for me to do, is wrong for you to do. It's not about following a "book", it's about following what God has told us to do or not do. That then leads into an entire different direction speaking of faith, which would have no coalition to the discussion at hand. But as for hypocritical, that's not there. For again if it's wrong or right for say me, it's wrong or right for everyone. Now if someone says it's wrong to do, then do it themselves, that's just people. Not encouraged by the belief thereof, again just a personal choice that someone(s) did or didn't do.

And God "fearing" is just a statement made so to speak. We actually want a God loving person. But with love comes fear, fear to do wrong, fear of upsetting them, fear for going against God's will, ect. Not a terrifying/scared kind of fear. To a more fuller extent, but just as when you're in a relationship. You fear loosing that person, you fear doing the wrong thing. Maybe not so consciously, but that fear of doing wrong is what drives people to do right if that's with God or with another person.

Kinda makes me wonder....is it really the words or the Christian connotation that irks people?

Would people have the same problem if someone puts "only Christians"?

I don't know Yellowrose. I for one would appreciate it because if that is a priority for someone to feel comfortable in a relationship it is much easier to know it up front. But again it is open to personal interpretation.

I have long standing Catholic leanings in my beliefs and strongly feel that the Holy Mother is important to my life but I generally have a Protestant view so pretty early on I find out if a potential Catholic partner has problems with the fact that I married my late husband in a secular ceremony which in the strictest interpretations would not have been acceptable. As would my choice early in my young adult life to have permanent birth control.

Religion can become a touchy subject early in dating but I have seen way to much strife in relationships where people are vehemently mismatched and I try to avoid it. Not because I feel the other person is "Good or Bad" just not a match that will Mingle well in a marriage.

That's ridiculous. I have said that and I'm not a scammer. I have heard that term all my life.

Get a grip

I agree. On the flip side I would respect someone saying no Christians.

I just don't get anyone getting irked over what a total stranger has on a profile. IMO it has to be more than just 2 words

If someone sees that and it's not for them...bypass it. Why get wound up about it. Seems silly to me

Only the OP can answer that for himself and himself alone

It is sad that so many of the faithful take on the unwelcome mantle of being False Profits (Scammers) but yea sometimes when I hear someone Beating the drum "follow what I say at the cost of damnation" if you do not the first thought that comes to my mind is SCAMMER too.

I don't believe in a soft and fuzzy God who makes excuses when his rules are bent but I do see God as a kind , generous, practical God that knows Human Weakness and makes it really clear just what is going to create Hell on earth so he gives out very precise commandments.

Example The no adultery thing. He makes it clear it is a no so I save myself a lot of misery now and in eternity by skipping over anyone who is not free and clear. I have seen people bend the rules and yet to see one that really turned out well. I have seen so many relationships start out shacking up and maybe 1 in a Hundred get down the aisle and most of those have a long and painful path because there is a HUGE difference in playing house and being married; especially married in a faith based marriage.
