British woman blamed for triggering an earthquake by posing naked on a sacred mountain is due to appear in court where she could be charged over allegations of indecent behaviour, her lawyer said.
Eleanor Hawkins, 23, is among a group of Western backpackers arrested after photos emerged of them allegedly stripping naked on Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia. A magnitude-5.9 earthquake struck the 13,400ft-high mountain last Friday, killing 18 people and leaving hundreds more stranded.

Sabah state deputy chief minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan blamed the earthquake six days later on travellers showing "disrespect to the sacred mountain".

The group of 10 tourists stripped naked before taking photos at the peak of Kinabalu on May 30.

Just watched a news piece on this. I see they've made some progress in the last thousand years and are just going to incarcerate some tourists for a few months instead of sacrificing virgins in a volcano.

Maybe they should consider that they angered the "spirits" by the execution of foreigners last month.

Natural disasters happen...naturally. I may be wrong, but wasn't there a time when people did not try to blame everything on someone or something else?

I reckon not, or there would not have been so many virgins wasted trying to appease gods and spirits.

Anyway, I think if the spirits were angered by a bunch of naked boobies then they would have moved the earth out from under the offenders, not waited six days and tumble rocks onto 18 "innocent" people.

I can't believe in our day and age that there'd be people who seriously consider linking an earthquake to human behavior, as lewd as it can be.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was a joke about a very fat woman.

They are still living in 700 AD. Look what's happening in Iraq and Syria...gays are being punished by dropping them down from building tops while others wait and watch with stones to ensure they died.

Now, don't ask me why is it happening even in twenty first century cos I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest.

I'm baffled about WTF they were thinking; it's no secret that this is considered a 'SACRED MOUNTAIN'...why would you risk insulting the nation that you are a tourist in by doing this?
