.... the NAACP remains committed to securing political, educational, and economic justice for all people ...

Then that organization should change its name.

no more than we should no longer be the 'united states of america' even though we are anything but

its a historical significance to the original and ongoing concerns of inequality and injustice that uniquely face minorities

lift the bottom and everything else rises with it

Seems they haven't done a very good job of it.

done more than what was happening without them

after 106 years blacks are still rioting, looting in the streets. highest murder crime rate, lowest job rate.
And the NAACP hasn't changed this? Even with a black POTUS?
I would want my money back if I were Moe.

so, dont join

Im happy with my 35 dollar membership, its barely a drop in the bucket

schools arent segregated(legally), blacks can vote, blacks are free to purchase nicer homes(legally, even if still facing financial obstacles), and protests have lead to civil rights laws that have also lifted many black people up,,,,,,,all thanks to NAACP being available and organizing/fighting for justice,,,

I know, it's great. A lot has been done for equality. Not just the NAACP but billions of dollars spent by the government, laws have been passed, agencies created, marches have been marched to help blacks. But why do we still have rioting, looting in the streets. highest murder crime rate, lowest job rate among blacks, more blacks on subsidies than any other ethnicity? Whats up with that?

the same reason we have always had rioting, looting, or any other crimes in america.. because america , like any other country has criminals

murder crime rate is a result of our american culture(wild west, and drug use, paranoia,,depression, desperation,,etcc,,)

the job rate has changed as much as anyone elses,, but the disparity has remained the same

subsidies are the lingering result of historical socioeconomic disparity and policy of segregation, white flight, and redlining,,,

Harmony, I agree with you for the most part but I wouldn't be so fast to agree that all these problems are statistically dominated by blacks. A lot has changed since the 90s or even the last decade and I'm almost certain the census does not accurately reflect the population in regards to race or numbers.
Since the government sold the prison system and it is now on the stock market I wouldn't have too much faith in their reporting either, not that they would answer to anyone who isn't a shareholder to begin with.

Cultures become more civil over time too. Different cultures have had to overcome such hardships and worse too.It seems the black culture is doing just the opposite. In spite of the massive aid they have been given.

seems TO YOU,,,,

black culture in america has had a unique experience in AMERICA

took nearly three hundred years for the oppressors to learn to be 'civilized'

that only came to some legally binding change in the past fifty years,,,along with it small progress, but still much needing to be done. by my count,, we still got 250 some years before we should start worrying about not becoming 'civilized' fast enough..

No she wasn't there and neither was I. We live in today's society where even video evidence capturing the murders of several blacks as young as 12 whether they had broken some misdemeanor law or not, their killers civilian and police are all free. Not even a wrongful death suit. Just yesterday 9 black people including an SC senator and Pastor were gunned down in Church for welcoming an outsider into their place of worship regardless of his race. How can you agree that the system which profits from keeping cellblocks full enough to force the building of new prisons to fill is wrong when children and teens murderers walk free? How can this be right if we aren't making the best of our situations? Tell that to Tamir Rice Treyvon Martin and Michael Brown's parents. Anything less would be uncivilized.

Too bad blacks have the exact same oppurtunites all Americans have now. I got news for you, slavery has been over for a long time......and yet, its still used as an excuse.
Depsite only making up abt 13% of the U.S. population, African Americans accounted for 52% of all murders, 31% of all rapes, 56% of all robberies, and 33% of all aggravated assaults in 2013.
https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2013/crime-in-the-u.s.-2013/tables/table-43

African Americans graduate high school at a rate of only 69%....

"" Graduation rates vary greatly by state
and race. Nationwide, black students
graduated at a rate of 69 percent;
Hispanics graduated at 73 percent;
whites graduated at a rate of 86 percent.""
http://www.governing.com/gov-data/education-data/state-high-school-graduation-rates-by-race-ethnicity.html

64% of African American children are raised in single parent homes.
http://www.actrochester.org/children-youth/family-support/single-parent-families/single-parent-families-by-race-ethnicity/data-tables

Why is that important?

"" Children in single-parent families are far more
likely to grow up in low-income households
than those living with two parents. They are at
greater risk of low academic performance and
behavioral problems and may experience
parental conflict and residential instability as
well.""
http://www.actrochester.org/children-youth/family-support/single-parent-families/single-parent-families-by-race-ethnicity

But its so much harder to actually look in the mirror and see that maybe they are to blame for most of their issues.. African Americans arent owed anything. They are born with an oppurtunity to go to school, get an education, work hard, and make a good life for themselves. If they....or hell, anyone of ANY race squanders that, its on THEM...and they shouldnt expect anyone to rescue them. Hell, its a slap in the face to the plethora of African Americans who DO do the right thing, make good life decisions, and prosper.

According to most pundits, statistics, and general thought the biggest factor is the single parent/unwed mother with multiple children in an urban area. Peer pressure is extreme against education and authority. While most mothers instinctively want the best for their children, the lack of a good father figure leaves and indelible mark. Peer pressure creates gangs, crime, drugs, and attitudes.

perhaps its just much easier to point fingers and blame instead of sharing responsibility

noone has said that black people dont have work to do amongst black people here,, the point being debated was the 'civility' of blacks,, which is no less civil than anyone else, given the same set of circumstances and the same history

and no, slavery is not an 'excuse' for anything, it is a logical assessment of where we are by understanding where we came from

when people try to imply blacks have some inferior cultural or moral value by asking questions about the differences in demographics when it comes to crime, or education, or even health,, I will always point out that where blacks have COME FROM and COME THROUGH have quite a bit to do with where they are at

you cant ask people to race a 200 mile race, give them a flat tire for the first 150 and then fix it and ask with any intellectual morality why they arent doing as well as those who started with four good wheels, because they have four good tires NOW

and the fact that there are many who are BETTER Than(and you have to be better than those starting with four good wheels to catch up or surpass them) , is not any evidence that others arent equal to,,,

and when we are talking DEMOGRAPHICS we are talking about one unit,,,and how they have progressed (or run the race) compared to others,,,

Those stats don't prove that blacks have the SAME chances as whites do to succeed, they PROVE the opposite. What about single parent numbers for the other races? Since we have the SAME chances why not convince someone in your family to send one of their or your kids to a foster home in a low income ghetto in Cleveland, Compton, El Paso or maybe the south side of Chicago with a black single parent? Statistics prove that they will graduate and become successful right? If they don't die from starvation, or get killed by gang violence because their skin color hasn't remained as dark as everyone else's.

What am supposed to share responsibility for? I have nothing to do with an individuals bad decisions. I was born with the same oppurtunity every American in this day and age has.....I just was taught not to piss it away....and I make a conscious decision everyday not to piss it away. I suggest others do the same.

noone has said that black people dont have
work to do amongst black people here,,
Good...they should get to work on that.

and no, slavery is not an 'excuse' for anything,

You, or no African American alive today were there....so none of you can claiim thats "where you came from".

when people try to imply blacks have some
inferior cultural or moral value by asking
questions about the differences in
demographics when it comes to crime, or
education, or even health,,
About crime or education? Ive provided you non biased stats in earlier links that say different. Is it all African Americans? No....I also mentioned that many didnt fall in the "Im black, therefore Im owed" trap and made their own way in life....but its a large number of them.

you cant ask people to race a 200 mile race,
give them a flat tire for the first 150
No African American is asked to run a handicapped "race". None alive were around for the "first 150 miles". Its just an excuse.

and the fact that there are many who are
BETTER Than(and you have to be better than
those starting with four good wheels to catch
up or surpass them)
There are MANY people...white, black, brown, and every other color, who have faced bigger obstacles than skin color and succeeded. Excuses, Excuses......

and when we are talking DEMOGRAPHICS
Every demographic in every corner of this country is provided an chance to get educated, learn a good work ethic, and succeed. Those who dont....and complain......are only looking for a shortcut.

every demographic has not had the same 250 year HEAD START

some demographics were held back for quite a large chunk of the history while others were permitted to move forward,, meaning those DEMOGRAPHICS Had quite a huge head start,,,, which may have SOMETHING to do with the huge disparities people try to simply blame on racial or 'individual' shortcomings

an no there is no other group, with exception of native americans , who have come close to the SPAN OF OPPRESSION, in america,,,,,and as a result, native americans have their disparities as well,,,,

That's an anti-climatic way to end your post. Anyone who cites "Treyvon Martin and Michael Brown" as evidence of injustice in society is drinking the progressive, liberal, anti-racist kool aid.

There continues to be injustice towards black people in the US, today, but those two cases are NOT evidence of this.

They are, in fact, evidence of how far the 'anti racists' will go to deny facts inconsistent with their rhetoric.

Historically speaking, the first african slaves brought to "the Americas", were brought by the French.

Historically speaking, africans were sold into slavery, by, amazingly enough, other africans.
Slavery of africans by africans, is still quite widespread, throughout the continent of africa. Darfur, Sudan, would be one example.

300+ years of slavery in "the colonies". Of that, the United States existed for less than a century, before we abolished slavery.

Blame the British empire for the first 200+ years of slavery in "america". And blame the French. And blame the Spanish.

Nobody alive today, was ever legally a slave in the United States.
