how soon do you say these words..
in a relationship.. once you realize you do love them... do you Say it' as soon as you feel it?.. or do you wait for them to say it first?.. and if they said!.. I love you too you !..and you don't really quite feel it yet.. do you echo there I love you.. with your own I love you back reply,..As somewhat of a knee jerk reaction...

. and if not! what do you tell them..
do you say ...oh thank you! but I'm just not really feeling it yet?laugh  ..

I know from first hand Experience..
how awkward it can be!.. when someone falls in love with you before you fall in love with them.. and they declare their love for you... awkwardsurprised

No matter what she says, I say that when I feel, no need to lie. Or she will wait or turn around and leave....

Ive said it first.
I told him so when it made sense for me to tell him so.
By that point, it didnt really matter to me if he returned the gesture or not.
I just told him what i felt because he deserved that.

My advice is to be honest.
Honest with yourself and with the other person.
yes it might hurt because it's not the answer they want.
Don't live a lie.
Have no regrets .
Remember what ever you do has a rippling effect on others around you in the present as well as the future .
I hope this helps.
Speaking from experience.

Oh gosh.. what a nice thing to hear early in the morning! smooched

Answering your question.. indeed it's very awkward and usually they will start asking, don't you love me too? When you didn't answer back. That's when i felt I'm being push to a corner and i will start my questioning session.. how does he define love, love is not about talking.. blah blah blah and then we will start to quarrel big time over it!frustrated

So to prevent such incident from happening again.
Usually I'm upfront and tell them.. I'm a person who don't say "i love you" till the day i marry.. bigsmile

We get old and get use to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted. But once in awhile, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met.... Most precious gift I have ever received in life. My mom. I love you, mom!

Phd, nice thread. Thank you. :)

I don't take saying those words lightly. Just because the person I'm with may be saying it doesn't mean I'm going to reciprocate. I never say unless I know it to be true. And yes, it does get awkward. Caring for someone doesn't mean love.

I have yet to use those words, mostly because I've only ever been in relationships where in we're both settling for what we can get. My last ex asked me why I never said it, to which my answer was I wasn't sure if I did. When she asked me to say it just once to see how it felt it tasted a lie in my mouth. After that relationship ended I decided I would never get into a relationship with someone just because they were "willing" ever again. That was ten years ago and I am still single.

Since I am assuming we are talking about the" I am in love with you" words...

Those words are hard for me. Because when I love someone... that means I am ready to commit and that scares the crap out of me.

I have said it first and was scared spitless..

I have also had it said to me when I knew I wasn't in love with them and most likely would never be. This has happened a couple of times

I answered I love spending time with you... Both times.

The first one let it go at that..
The second wanted to know what that meant.
I had to be honest... I loved spending time with them but I wasn't in love with them big difference.

I can love many people and have loved a few different men but I wasn't " in love with them" a huge difference in my book of words..

I m sure your roast is done if my ham is... What is your opinion or experience

If i love someone, there's nothing stoping me immediately from telling the person that i love her.. It's good to express love immediately. There's no delay for that

what is wrong with saying, (as the song goes),
"I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, like you." (Carly Rae Jepson?)
I have been out of circulation for 35 years, however, if sparks ever fly for me again, I think/hope I could feel the connection as well from the other person. Saying I love you to someone will not make them love you back.
Either sex should refrain from expressing the phrase until they are more sure it is reciprocated, lest they suffer the devastating embarassment..
May I also add, that to say that could be to drive someone away, not draw them near.. some girls would feel suffocated.
just saying. IMHO

Are we talking about how much we love a roast. ohwell

Being British I generally have one every Sunday.

I do love a roast and if it's cooked to perfection then I have no problem paying homage to the spuds.

that's a tricky question. those are words that can make a person run for the hills.

having said that, I'm not a person who can hide things, either good or bad.
when I start to have feelings for someone, I let them know. I do let that person know I don't expect the words back and won't try to push someone to something they are not ready for.
it's a bit scary but not bad.
