So....I get home from a long night at work and go to check my bank account (taxes are a coming in soon)and I said WTF????? someone had attempted to gain access to my accounts online last night around 10pm. Problem is that I was driving in my car...going to work.....and my router is not THAT good. thankfully, the dumb arses did not get it right and the account locked itself down.
WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST GO GET A FLIPPIN JOB AND EARN...YES...EARN THEIR OWN MONEY? IT REALLY IS A DIFFERENT WORLD THESE DAYS.

You got lucky my son about 4 months ago was working out of state.. His checks are on a automatic deposit from his job. He was on his way home and before he got home his bank account had been hacked and his whole check was gone around a couple of thousand.... He did get it back but it took a couple of weeks before the bank got it all back into his account...

Wow. That is a long time to have to wait for your own money. A few months back I had the bank call me and tell me there was suspicious activity on my account. Someone had made 6 purchases totaling about $600. Once I confirmed it was not me they reversed the charges immediately. I had to fill out some paperwork while they investigated and I was told it could be reversed back in 30 days depending on what they found but I never heard anything more.
4 of the 6 charges were to gamer websites which is what made them suspicious...lol

One of the guys I work with had several hundred taken out of his account for I Tunes which was purchased from China.. The bank said he had to go through I Tunes to get his money back took him I know almost a month and at least 2 -3 phone calls to them cause the first guy acknowledged the purchase but failed to make the correct transactions for him to get his money back.. The bank would not even touch it said they could not with I Tunes..

Really? I thought there was some clause with the debits that you were only responsible for the first $50?? Maybe not all banks then. My bank never even tried to stick me with the $50. I guess I'll be staying with them

They never had a password. I was told there was nothing I could have done differently. They use software to find active debit card numbers and then find websites that don't require the security code on the back of the card.
So you can be hacked either way....

This is true, and yet I know on all my cards and my bank there are several safegaurds..I know a last summer I was on top of a mountain when my bank called to authorize a purchase. Well the purchase wasn't made lol and I got new cards sent to me over night.

Thank goodness, the dumb arses were not able to get any of your money. You got a good bank.

This is exactly why I don't give people anymore information than my screen name, no phone, until I meet them in person and I just don't tell stuff people do not have and absolute life and death reason to know.

Not that I have much; I just can't afford to loose what I have. And I be hanged if I am going to help a creepizoid take what I do have.

But payrolls getting hung up is exactly why I don't allow myself to spend myself down where I can't have some margin if things get SNUFUD. That's just life.

And I keep enough non-perishable supplies in my pantry that if I have to coast spending no money for at least a month; I can. Actually it is a great stress reliever.

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST GO GET A FLIPPIN JOB AND EARN...YES...EARN THEIR OWN MONEY?

This is their job.
They owe no loyalty or anything to you.
Do you think politicians "earn" all their salary and benefits?
How about all of the taxes collected?
You think Obamacare taxes aren't theft?

Are there no corrupt policeman taking money?
Or no corrupt fireman that steal stuff from homes?
Paramedics that don't steal wallets?
Neighbors that don't take lawn ornaments, tools, cable, internet?
Businesses that don't sell your information or steal it as soon as you post it on the internet?

Businesses that don't figure it's cheaper to let a few people die rather than do a recall?
When you have an internet outage for even an hour do you call your cable company for a refund for that time? They don't automatically give you one, but they will if you ask...after an hour on their phone tree and waiting.

Do you know why there are so many more coupons and rebates that you have to "send in" to cash them in? Because most people don't and it's expected that most people won't.
But things are still advertised at the after coupon price.

There is absolutely no business or group of people you encounter that isn't trying to steal something from you.
Some are just more polite and seemingly rational about why you should pay them.

And in large part you are socially trained to just go along with it.

There is not a person alive that will go through a transaction with you that won't walk away more happy if they get more from you than what you get in return is worth and you don't realize it.

someone had attempted to gain access to my accounts online

Our governments do this daily when they garnish wages, freeze accounts, put people on "watch lists" and investigate them.

IT REALLY IS A DIFFERENT WORLD THESE DAYS.

Not really.
The toys have changed.
That's about it.
A lot of people (especially in the "western" world) simply have this false sense of security, control, and romanticizing of the past as though all this "bad" stuff happening is anything new.

The only thing that has kept most people safe was they were one of millions and no one or small group could go through millions of victims with ease.
With the internet, and everyone using the internet? No problem.

i was reading where this mostly happens because of using the card swiper on the gas pumps, because of some device the thieves use... couldn't hurt to much just to go inside and pay...

Actually they have been tracing a lot of the hackers back to gas stations, Restaurants and other places you buy stuff it is not always online sales.

Always best to check your account and make sure you have a fraud alert at the bank on unusual purchases..

Never hurts to be safe..
