Why The Internet Is Disturbed By This ‘X-Men’ Poster

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/jennifer-lawrence-x-men-poster-strangle_us_57507594e4b0c3752dccdcbd?/

A new poster for "X-Men: Apocalypse" featuring Jennifer Lawrence is getting attention for the all the wrong reasons.

The poster features Lawrence as her blue-skinned character Mystique being strangled by antagonist Apocalypse, played by Oscar Issac. Unsurprisingly, many are not happy with the imagery 20th Century Fox chose.

I really hate that the marketing for X-Men: Apocalypse is focused entirely around that shot of Apocalypse choking Mystique.

Am I the only one disturbed by the X-Men billboards with the pic of Ultron choking out Mystique?

Actress Rose McGowan weighed in, as well, while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter:

There is a major problem when the men and women at 20th Century Fox think casual violence against women is the way to market a film. There is no context in the ad, just a woman getting strangled. The fact that no one flagged this is offensive and frankly, stupid. The geniuses behind this, and I use that term lightly, need to to take a long hard look at the mirror and see how they are contributing to society. Imagine if it were a black man being strangled by a white man, or a gay male being strangled by a hetero? The outcry would be enormous. So let’s right this wrong. 20th Century Fox, since you can’t manage to put any women directors on your slate for the next two years, how about you at least replace your ad?

The Mary Sue also commented on the negative implications of showing a naked woman being choked by a male three times her size in such a public and promotional manner.

"There’s an indulgent, gross, and exploitative quality to this decision, where the promotion of the film relies on images of abuse," reporter Sasha James wrote. "With Mystique at the mercy of Apocalypse’s destructive will, this poster reinforces a narrative that commandeers and reduces women into a position of helplessness through violence."

A representative for 20th Century Fox was not immediately available for comment.

Why The Internet Is Disturbed By This ‘X-Men’ Poster

because The Internet is comprised of billions of people using it daily and each person has their individual taste and need to feel important?

Because "journalists" like those at huffington post take 2 tweets and work to prove it's representative of the entire internet?

blue-skinned character Mystique being strangled by antagonist Apocalypse, played by Oscar Issac

I think this should have been amended to: "a naked blue chick strangled by a purple headed warrior that grows in size as she struggles and cries."

I think anyone from the film would be screwed by crappy journalists.
I mean professor x? "OMG! Choking a handicapable person!"
Cyclops? "OMG! A blind person!"
Beast? "OMG! Hypertrichosis aspergers person being choked!"
Magneto? "OMG! Holocaust survivor!"

Coming Summer 2019; X-Men 27. X-men battle their greatest foe in genial public debate regarding changing their open minded inclusive group's name from X-men to "(insert gender and emotional neutral symbol here) - representative."

Film studio issues real-world apology to histrionic SJW, for comic-book-world offence

It must be fascinating to be a social justice warrior, enjoying the finest creature comforts as you pursue a useless fine arts degree, paid for by your parents or taxpayers. Yet, you feel kinda left out when it comes to protesting injustice.

With no racial segregation or Vietnam War to protest, progressives search for something, anything, that offends their politically-correct sensibilities. Maybe a Halloween costume or the name of a football team?

So, what’s the latest trivial tempest-in-a-teapot that has them demanding an apology? They’re upset over a movie poster for a fictional film based on a comic book.

20th Century Fox recently issued a grovelling apology for a promotional poster from the latest X-Men flick depicting Mystique being strangled by the villain Apocalypse, after fringe elements claimed the image promoted violence against women.

It’s not like Apocalypse is an ex-CBC radio host and Mystique, a former Trailer Park Boys actress. They’re actors enhanced with a ton of CGI depicting super-powered mutants pretending to fight each other, right?

But that doesn’t matter to SJW's like Kathi Ziolkowski of Toronto who launched an online petition to get the studio to remove the poster because, according to her, that image wasn’t promoting the “right message”. The studio released the following statement in order to appease thin skinned progressives:

“In our enthusiasm to show the villainy of the character Apocalypse we didn’t immediately recognize the upsetting connotation of this image in print form. Once we realized how insensitive it was, we quickly took steps to remove those materials. We apologize for our actions and would never condone violence against women.”

Progressives fail to understand that no reasonable man looks at an image of a woman being harmed and says, “That looks like fun. I think I’ll slap Sheila around when I get home.” Men who physically abuse women are real-life monsters.

Too bad Mystique didn’t shape-shift into a white male on that poster. Progressives would probably have applauded that imagery. And if 20th Century Fox wants to issue a statement of regret for being offensive, how about an apology for last summer’s release of that stink-bomb known as The Fantastic Four? Now there’s something to really be sorry about...

What do you expect when you have a kiddie rapist like Brian Singer Directing and behind the promotion of the movie.

I love Marvel movies but I have not and will not watch an X-Man movie this pedophile is involved with.

I agree. Anytime someone brings it up they are shot down. Singer is a part of United Artists film company owned by Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology has handled some messes for UA.

One of the first movies I saw with friends in the 5th grade. I think it had a R rating but the theater didn't care. My favorite part was when the black guy was surrounded by whites and he pulls out his gun and puts it to his own head and says something like, Put your guns down, or I'll blow this (nword) brains out! Then some old white guy says, easy everybody, he just might do it!

Yea today's kids are over sensitive. We've got some new trainees at work. I was reading a new policy that we have to follow and I realized it was a dumb policy. I told the guys, well we'll have to do this, but it's retarded. The newbies were like, begging your pardon sir. Pretty sure you can get sued for using that word. I said, Say what??? Retarded sir, you can't use that word. It is desparaging of the mentally challenged. I laughed and told them, look I wasn't calling anyone retarded, I was saying the policy itself is a stupid waste of time, written by an idiot. Then I told them to jog a mile for being retarded. Lol.

Hence the diversionary tactic of 'claiming' this poster is the controversy.
