Democratic congressman likens Jewish settlers in the West Bank to 'termites' invading homes

In a heated discussion Monday at an event sponsored by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) compared Jewish Israelis' settlement of the West Bank to termites' quiet destruction of homes. "There has been a steady [stream] — almost like termites can get into a residence and eat before you know that you've been eaten up, and you fall in on yourself — there has been settlement activity that has marched forward with impunity and at an ever-increasing rate to the point where it has become alarming," Johnson reportedly told the group. The U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation advocates boycotting Israel. Johnson also suggested "'Jewish people' routinely steal land and property from Palestinians," The Washington Free Beacon wrote.

I don't know enough "truth" to condemn or condone the actions of either side in this dispute, but I don't like the results and can't condone calling a people termites..... isn't that more or less what happened in Germany some decades ago?

The situation of Israel and the territories they have occupied since 1967 have never been resolved. They have always been problematic.

The motives of each successive Israeli government have been inconsistent.

As many countries have, there ahs long been a difference between what the Israeli government SAYS it wants to do, and what it actually does.

Here in the US, we have a mix of politicians talking about the ME problems. Some say whatever they do, not because they WANT to, so much as because they are trying to arrange things behind the scenes, so that circumstances will get better. They have to more or less lie, because the lies are necessary to enable the people who have to give way, to "save face," so to speak.

Others pretend to be much more decisive, not because they actually are, but because they want to be elected to lucrative office HERE, based on how upset people HERE are, about the ME. They say all kinds of crap, because they don't have to follow through or take the consequences.

Anyway, this is about what people say behind the scenes. What's said here isn't all that unusual. Is it anti-Israel? Really? or just discussing possibilities and concerns without the usual veneer of political fakery?

Did that guy say all Jews were termites? Or did he say that the slow process of eating away at Arab areas under the guise of entrepreneurial efforts was similar to the way that termites eat away at wooden structures?

All in all, not enough evidence to make a case here for anything more that more "TAT."

As in "Tit for TAT," where one side says stuff you don't like, so you find stuff to pretend that YOU don't like that THEY said.
