Has there ever been a time when a close call really frightened you?
I lost my daughter in a car accident. Going to see her body was beyond terrifying.
Another dreadful moment was, after bringing my mom home from visiting my very ill dad in the hospital, answering a phone call from the the on duty nurse informing me that my dad just passed....my mom was changing clothes and I remember the utter dread waiting the few minutes for her to come out of the bedroom...and figuring out how to tell her the man she lived with for nearly 50 years had just died.

On a lighter note....I've almost stepped on my fair share of copperheads, water moccasins, and rattlesnakes while running around the swamps and woods here. Definitely a pucker factor when you look down and see big canebrake rattler right where youre about to place your footlaugh

ohh God..
so difficult..

Ahh you are both so lucky :-)

I got the call one day, Santa Barbara Sheriff's office.

'Are you the parent of..?'
'I am the step-parent, the father is on the golf course.'
'We regret to inform you (they really do say that) that
your son committed suicide, can you come here and handle?'

So I had to wait until his Dad came in from golfing to
tell him his only son and remaining child had killed
himself, his sister had done so many years earlier.

frown That makes me want to hug my children much more than I already do.

Had the hospital call one day telling me to go to intensive care to say good bye to my son. Well the drive to the hospital was gut wrenching. Got to intensive care.5 doctors were working on him.
that afternoon he was back talking to us and stayed 10 days in intensive care and stayed another 3 weeks in the regular ward.

that is good news and hope she healed well after the operations...
yes I know how you feel ... my young daughter at the time was taking the dog for a ckup with her BF ... well I believe they hydroplaned...
got the call from the ems but then they handed the phone to my daughter and she said they all where fine ... they just rolled in a ditch ... we have lots of ditches ... so my thinking was ok they just had two wheels in the ditch and have to be towed out ... she said she was going to her BF so i said i would meet her there well his parents met them at the car and I was sitting at the house waiting for them while his parents took them to the hospital ... then I went to the hospital... come to find out they rolled the car + totaled it ...
I was like Holy **** ... they never said that to me on the phone ...
once I ended up seeing them in the emergency rm got a little scared myself but they where fine ... now she started having panic attacks and took her a yr to feel comfortable to drive herself ... the look of that car they all should not have made it ... so very much understand your feelings ... and your daughter is very pretty ... I thanked all of the guardian angels...those kids had evening ... I only had one complaint ...when I took her back to the emergency rm maybe the nxt day a few people their had said oh your going to be fine I was in a accident and I lived ... well these where older people and she was sixteen ... I kinda got angry that what they where saying to her was not her own experience and every one is different and everyone handles things in different ways ... so they should not made her feel like this was know big deal ... she was scared and stayed scared for a long time ... felt they should have been more sensitive to her needs ... and was not the first time they had been inconsiderate at that hospital ...

A few monts ago i lost my grandma, she was 90 years old, she died in her sleet, it was very difficult on me. I still can't just accept that fact that she died, that woman was my heart my moral compass in life, my rock my strenght. I miss her everyday so very much.
It's just heartbreaking reading everyone's story. I'm really sorry for you loss, Soufie, Mr.Archer. May God and the Lady of mercy protect their souls and may they Rest In Peace.
In the same time I'm really glad your daughter managed to recover pretty well, David.

One of the hardest times that hit me the worst was about 24 years ago...

Got a call from my Dad like 4am one morning... My little sister was in a really bad wreck. She was with 3 others going down the freeway where there was a bunch of construction.. The car in front had stalled and the guy was trying to push it down the road with a woman behind the steering wheel no seat belt on..There was no access shoulder in order to get off the main road due to the construction. He was able to jump the concrete barrier when he realized they were not stopping...

It ended up the vehicle my little sister was in, she was sitting in the lap of the guy in the front seat cause one of the guys was asleep in the back seat.. When he realized what was happening he threw my sister over the seat to the back seat...

If not she would have went through the windshield... their vehicle rolled like 4 times knocked out all the windows it was Bronco type.

When it was all over the guy in the back seat broke his leg, guy driving messed up his knee passage got some bumps and bruises... The lady in the car in front of them was killed..... My little sister had a broke her neck...

So yea getting that call at 4am and all I was told was get to the hospital quick Angie has broke her neck in a accident... Needless to say I got to the emergency room and my step mom first thing said please go in there and talk to Angie she will not listen to anyone..

They took me back she was laying on the gurney with a pool of blood on the floor her long blood hair was soaked.. She had a pretty good gash on her head and refused to let them shave part of her hair so they could stitch it up or cut her clothes off of her... After a short time of me talking to her they were able to do what ever was needed..

I pulled the Dr. aside and asked him how bad is this will she be in a Halo or even walk again. He looked at me and said if the bone had moved just 5 more cm it would have killed her... At least she is alive..

She was lucky after surgery no Halo and she ended up making a full recovery...

Sure I have had other times but that time was the worst for me... For we have always been close...

I can say to this day she has not had to have any other surgeries and doing great...

There are a few more but this was one the worst scare I had..
