Good Day, my mingle 2 friends, well your boy is going to use himself as the subject to this. First, of all thanks peace & Love to all my loyal Vocal Avengers, you guys continue to keep me relevant to these forums thanks a mill. Okay, I'm ask my m2 friends this, this is not a scenario but a thought. I had a thought one day I want to get married. have more kids, spend the rest of my life happy. But then I came across a book about great men in human history had a wife and concubines. So I was thinking maybe one day I can be in a position that I can not only have my wives under one home but be financially stable to take care of my wives. Now before I let my Vocal Avengers voice there views, remember great people in history had many wives, and why is that forbidden here in America? So what should I do America, stick with one beautiful wife someday or claim my kingdom with wives & concubines? Oh yeah women, I'm very interested in hearing from you. Would you be able handle a man that have more than one wife or you like Naw, that's something I don't approve? So lets talk, can't wait to hear from you all.

Many interesting questions there. I believe in the USA it is forbidden because there is a legal set of obligations the government has to a marital couple and it is defined as ONE with ONE.
I believe the custom of concubines and a wife OR several wives is not inherently bad or good but is just different in different cultures. I believe it depends upon one's intentions whether I would judge it in a negative light. I believe you should do what is legal and meets your needs and wants for life. Personally, I am too attached to the idea of one man and one woman to share an intimate partner with another female(or with a male). I can see the upside of having several wives for a man, the variety. I cannot see the upside of having to share a husband for a woman. The constant comparisons would be annoying. |

Welcome back, well I was thinking to myself is really bad to have another wife I know the Islamic religion adopts this behavior. So if a single man have more then a few girls in his cell phone contacts, would that be a taboo? I mean I'm single right now, but to be honest I did have a flash thought what life would be like 3 wives plus one? I don't know if I really go thru something like that, because I want to give my future wife all of me, but I was kind of curious of the ideal. |

I believe it is all based in what purpose one has for marriage. Some are raised in a culture where marriage is mainly the foundation for the family. There is a man to provide and a woman to nurture and care for the home and children. There is a 'contract' towards securing the family and falling in love is something that may or may not happen to occur along the way. More wives, as long as the provider could still provide for them, would mean more children and more hands to care for them. In these cultures, women are concerned more with the man being able to provide than with the sexual relations. In American culture, we place great significance on the sexual relations, so it may be much more difficult to find such a woman or women. My personal belief, is if both(or all) parties are being honest with each other about what they are giving and what they expect to get, and there is no intent to decieve, the details of their commitment are their business. |

You absolutely right, I have a middle eastern friend that born Muslim, from Iraq, he told me his father has 7 wives , not only they have like a living agreement, but they all maintain the children & home. Ms. Harmony, you know this country is a double standard. If a woman approached her hubby with an ideal she wanted 4 or 5 husbands, she be labeled a Whore, embarrassed even immediate divorce with no questions asks. I guess I live in a country that's not ready for the king Solomon theory yet. |

why is that forbidden here in America? Religious influence over laws. So what should I do America, stick with one beautiful wife someday or claim my kingdom with wives & concubines? I don't care as long as you aren't getting special tax status or welfare benefits like the polygamists in Colorado City, AZ. Marry as many women as you want. I'm just going to get pissed if you have 8 wives, beget 16+ kids, then demand my taxes start paying for them. And most especially if you start your own little family cult that takes over a town or city where I live and start discriminating against people that don't support/join/believe in your cult. |

As long as I am not supporting this lifestyle in any way with my tax dollars; I honestly dont care if someone wants a dozen wives or husbands for that matter.
For myself, nope wouldn't happen, I know myself too well for this to happen. I don't share well.

While I've heard of a few places/religions where men have multiple wives, i can't come up with any examples where women are encouraged to have multiple husbands. Unfortunately it seems that double standard exists in many places that women are considered immoral for doing the same thing a man would be praised for. All of that being said. I don't know if i would care to be part of a harem. Perhaps it's because we are raised and taught to expect fidelity and to he monogamous. I might feel insrcure being compared to my counterparts. And i don't want to be sharing my body with someone who still has the remnants of another partner on them. Then too, will he have the stamina to make many women happy? Having a significant other isn't like having more than one best friend where there's plenty of friendship to go around. In a relationship i like knowing I'm special and nobody else could take my place. Those are just some of my opinions |

Yes, Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale, Utah have large amounts of polygamy. They also have the highest rate in the world of cousins marrying cousins.

I think those great men practiced polygamy to protect the women, not for lust. The women lost their husbands from war and there were not enough men for them.

That is quite the can of worms you got there and I have no want to even touch that. I will say that one of the biggest reasons polygamy is outlawed in the US is because the Christian extremest that don't believe in a separation of church and state and are always trying to make a hand full of old testament laws federal laws.
I personally have a hard time keeping one woman happy, I have no wish to ever have more then one wife just so I can listen to how unhappy multiple women are. |
