Bounty hunters and fugitive shoot each other dead in Texas

DALLAS (AP) — Authorities said Wednesday two bounty hunters and the fugitive from Minnesota they were tracking shot each other dead in a hail of bullets that sent customers and employees fleeing for cover at a Texas car dealership.

The two men had pursued Ramon Michael Hutchinson, 49, to a Nissan dealership in Greenville, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Dallas Tuesday. Stew Peters, a bail investigator with the private Minnesota-based company U.S. Fugitive Recovery and Extradition, said Hutchinson had been sought since March when he failed to appear for a court hearing in Hennepin County, which includes Minneapolis.

Hutchinson, listed in court records as a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota, was facing several charges that included assaulting a law enforcement officer.

It's not clear what brought Hutchinson to Texas but Peters said he received a phone call Tuesday from Fidel Garcia Jr., a private investigator based in Corpus Christi, Texas, to say Garcia and colleague Gabriel Bernal had tracked Hutchinson to the dealership. A woman associated with Hutchinson had her car there.

After an hours-long wait for Hutchinson to appear, the two bounty hunters approached Tuesday evening. Garcia and Bernal drew their weapons and Hutchinson responded by drawing his own pistol, which he dropped, according to a statement from Kathy Lucas, spokeswoman for the city of Greenville. The men fought as Hutchinson retrieved his weapon and began firing. The other two fired as well and Lucas said about 20 shots were fired in the span of six seconds. Customers and employees fled for cover.

"Mr. Garcia felt the defendant would ultimately appear at that dealership," Peters said. "Unfortunately Mr. Hutchinson was more prepared for a gunfight."

Hutchinson and the two investigators died at the scene. No one else was struck by the gunfire.

The owner of the dealership, Rick Ford, told The Associated Press by email Wednesday that the two men called the dealership earlier and identified themselves as federal agents. They later presented themselves to a receptionist and the general manager in the same way, Ford said.

I read these "fake cops" were only certified in Texas as security guards. Security guards are qualified to were Uniforms and a holstered
firearm only.

FOX4 has learned the bounty hunters involved in a deadly shooting Tuesday never told Greenville police about what was about to happen, which is against typical protocol.

Police now say they didn't learn exactly what happened until well after the shooting stopped at the car dealership Tuesday evening and the investigation began. Three people were killed -- the two bounty hunters and the suspect they were trying to arrest.

Police said the case is closed, but what was captured or amateur video is still raising questions among many in law enforcement.

of business that sent customers and employees fleeing for cover
in a hail of gunfire ?....you can't get anymore stupid than this...

Bounty hunters have less restrictions and take full advantage. But pull a gun in Texas...hello mcfly

Doesn't mean bounty hunters or even cops are always right. I have never said there aren't corrupt cops

Bounty hunters have less restrictions and take full advantage.

you couldn't be more wrong about this...in fact, had they
survived this incident they would have been charged with
a Texas state jail felony and would be doing some prison time
of their own...

Bounty Hunters should be armed with one thing, the warrant for arrest. When they locate a suspect, local law makes the arrest.

or, they could arm themselves like "Dog" with a can of mace and a paintball gun.

I am not wrong. They don't have the same authority as cops but some take advantage

I meant less authority and are more restricted

i'm sorry, i misunderstood your comment ...
i agree, they have less authority and more restrictions
than the police...

when they take advantage, is when they can be charged with
criminal acts themselves...

Bounty hunters are a joke and usually interfere with law enforcement. Thry take it as an ego boost and vigilante justice

They also identified themselves as federal agents to the car dealership owner.... that's a no-no.

they are in the same group as mall cops... just that the laws are broader for them.... to broad.

i believe legitimate private investigators/bounty hunters
perform a much needed public service to the courts, police
and the citizens by tracking these guys down...

had these two only presented the valid Minnesota warrant to
the Texas DPS and let them handle the arrest and stood by for assistance to them only if needed, the bail jumper would have
been extradited back to stand trial and they would be going
home to their families that night...

by failing to hold their machismo in check, the result is now
all three of them are dead..and that serves no purpose at all..

7 bounty hunters are currently facing attempted murder charges in Tn for shooting up a carful of people that they though contained a fugitive.

problem was... wrong car... no fugitive.

Allow them to carry non lethal weapons. stun guns.. rubber bullets.. ect. they are not trained properly... clearly. And they think they are cops.. they are not.

Case in point.. they tried to take this guy down in a public place.. a car dealership.. with people right there... 22 bullets were fired into this populated place.

they couldn't take him down when he was getting in his car.. alone?

not too smart, were they.

Yea, these guys thought they were Macho Cops and were putting on a show for some reason. Sad it cost them their lives.

I am shocked that nobody else in that place was shot. Imagine the guy sitting at the desk writing up the lease paperwork. All of a sudden 22 bullets are whizzing around him. 15 seconds later there are 3 dead men plopped there and he's still holding the pen......now that's a tough day at work!!

Actually they would have been charged with a Federal Felony for passing themselves off as Federal Agents.
