Good afternoon America, I feel so good I wanted to pour you another of my "Hot Tea" topic with a slice of opinions. Its a Hot sunny day in my city of Philly. Philadelphians drink plenty of water today. Okay, let's get started. I was on trolley last night listening to my music, waiting to get to my neighborhood. I read an article on Google news that I thought was interesting. This article talks about a charity work in Philly & how its hard to meet your quota in a city that keeps moving. Okay, let me bring you to the article, okay, this may tingle down to your city, so think universal. Here in downtown Philly we have young men & women doing canvassing for local charities, rather its for sick or poor children, advocating for better healthcare, supporting the SPCA animal shelters & more. From what I got from the article, some of the workers doing outdoor canvassing in a major city is tuff, damn near impossible. They will have days where people would give them finger. Some would say its too hot right now, maybe later. Others would get really disrespectful to the workers, like one black girl approached a man and before she could get her pitch out, the guy call her the N-word. Others will use gimmicks to get people attention. So America, have you seen this in your city? Is out door canvassing or sales is as tough as we hear ? What's your take on street working charities. Would you stop & hear them or are they pest?

All replies will be returned
Thank You Sincerely

When I'm out doing things the last thing I want is someone in my face trying to sell something ect... There are so many scams around anymore it is unreal..

If I choose to give to a Charity I will do my own research and give to those I choose.. Same if I want to buy something..

Don't come walking up to me, call me, or come knocking on my door!!noway

Well unless it is Girl Scout Cookies then well it's do you have my favorite left??? bigsmile laugh laugh

EyeAmYourHost39,

Well I have to admit sometimes I walk quickly when I seen them. I mean not so much they pestering me but I also aware there are charity scams as well. But I won't disrespect them , calling out bad names, & assault them. they have a job to do. they have to feed there families. some do it while they in college. maybe some doing it to get up the ladder to a higher position at there company. One lady even said she got robbed for her proceeds & after the ordeal she resigned.

TxsGal3333,

Its funny you mentioned what you said , I sometimes feel like that as well. when I see them peddling the charities, the first thing comes to my mind is okay, you just a independent contractor, you don't work for the company. how do I know its going to go to the right charity?

i volunteered at a north Texas SPCA shelter once, and they actually kill more animals than they save... they only save the pets that might go quick, like puppies and small dogs, and only if they are friendly... the rest are put down...

Honestly you don't know where the money is really going. I prefer to give where I know about the charity amd where it's going

Myself there is only certain charities I will give to....

I do not buy from those that call to solicit,or sell out on the street I do understand it is a job for many... But I have run across this every day due to they call where I work all the time.. You tell them no thanks politely they keep going you tell them again sorry not interested third time is not always a charm for them.... If I have to tell them the third time I will walk away or hang up, and they will not like my response at that time.. I deal with salesmen that come in the door and on the phone every day at work..

It is one thing to sell it is another not to know when to back off!

In the last couple years have notice more going door to door in my neighborhood..One reason I refuse to put a doorbell in, and I keep my front enclosed porch locked when home so they can knock all they want too I'm not going to answer it.. noway

They arrest beggars in some cities...
I dont care what they do though, just like beggars, they've become a permanent fixture in most urban areas, unlike benches.
I pretty much ignore them and walk on. I don't need to be tied to an agent to practice charity. Especially when I know that only a fraction of the monies actually benefit the cause, whatever they say it may be...

I never ever give to "charities" or buy from anybody who knocks on my door or phones me. (girl scouts being the one exception. love their cookies, but they are getting pricey).

So, yeah, it must be tough for those folks having doors slammed in their face, phones angerly hung up on them, or being called names.

But I didn't ask them to do that kind of "work".

And some people must be buying what they're selling else there wouldn't be so many folks out there doing it.

MightyMoe,

I know what you mean. I brought a cat back in 2008 with my ex fiance at the time. We adppted a all white male cat. We loved him we named him munk. Within the same week he got sick. The cat was experiencing breathing problems. When we took him back to the SPCA unfortunately they told us they would have put him down.. Broke our hearts.

If someone calls and tries to sell me something I set the phone down and go about my bussiness, they hang up eventually and never call back.

If someone comes to my door trying to sell me something I let them go thru their spill and then try to sell them something back. Usually something that has no value. I start talking and just ramble on and on till they excuse themselves and never come back.

If I am out and about, like at a festival or a carnival and someone tries to sell me something I act like I am all interested and tell them I have to go to my car to get my money then walk away. When they approach me again I act like they are my long lost friend and try to make small talk. I act like I have never heard their pitch before and let them try to resell to me, after which I tell them I have to go to my car to get my money.

See, I have all the time in the world and most people that are pushing their goods, don't. I eat their time whenever possible.

Oh man, I thought this was a dating post...
Excuse me???.. Yes, Beautiful??? Would you do me a favor???? Anything Beautiful!!!!

Please...get lost!!!!. Duhoooooo!!! >:(

I have to agree....
I don't trust charities to do what they say...
What changed my mind??? The 2016 Election. Ballot stuffing by Democratic precincts caught on video!!!

I mean, there were video of sweet little old ladies cramming boxes with paper like some kinda crazy toilet paper commercial...

Ok, you may be saying Robby Robby Robby....WTF are YOU talking about???

The fall of basic human decency in America.. When we become just like 3rd world countries changing votes trying to steal elections, like when BERNIE SANDERS had the Nomination stolen by professional ****up Debbie Wasserman (somebody get me a ticket to Qatar) Shultz,,, and America just goes with it.....Well I figured...man I think we've hit the country's emotional bedrock....We can't go any lower.

So yes, my trust in Charities is blown. Because if we can cheat in the ballot box as volunteers.....Why not cheat homeless people....right??? I MEAN WHAT CAN THOSE POOR SLOBS DO ANYWAY???

I think I'll just keep handing out 10 spots to people I see on the daily struggling to feed a friend, or a family... my 2 cents..for what it's worth...

YellowRose,

Its funny you mentioned that where the money goes. Now every now and then i give to a homeless person. What that person do with the money who knows. I never really give to a canvasser. I do give to saint judes fund. See i like to give via mail. St. Jude will send you letters of thank you and if you really active they put you on a mailing list to recieve special offers.

yea, they have sad ways of doing things... they say they need money to help slow it down, but it wil never change, money isn't the problem, the problem is to many animals for them to care for...so they truned it into a cute, docile pet factory...

i wouldn't donate to any charity, they all are scammers with only maybe 20% of the donations going to thier cause, and the rest for overhead costs...

Rooster35,

So you saying they no different than a wino asking for money. I agree to extent. again i wont disrespect a canvasser worker. But i will gently turn them down. This people usually wear them bright orange vest so you can see them half a corner away. Then they usually in pairs. When i give the charity this is my questions:
1- whats the cause?
2- do you guys have a website for info?
3- how do i know my money going to the cause?
4- why is it important to only pay with credit card and not cash?
5-can someone call me to explain more about the cause? To see if its important to me?
6- can i cancel anytime?

If the canvasser cant answer at least 3 out of 6 questions right or with what they know. Then i smell a rat keep walking.

MightyMoe,

Welcome back. I know you right. Its not about money but its seems to be a over crowed pets with minimal love and youthenizing them for space. Here's what really hurt me. We took him back nott to want to hear they want to put em down but to treat him so he can come back home. We had another cat at the time. A younger cat. Our little cat wanted to play with munk but munk was too sick to want to play. It was like he knew he didnt have long to live. Then at this same SPCA we adopted another cat. We name her China. As soon as we brought her home she immediately headed to our coat closet. Wont come out. So i started to think why she in the closet. Well we returned her . her back story was her last owner kept her as the only cat. So when my little cat wanted to play she would run into the closet. She was pretty too a ling hair peanut butter color brown. Thats when we realized we're never going to adopt a animal there.

RobXBox73,

I know exactly what you mean. Its tuff that sometimes you want to do whats right and live how god would want us to do and thats to help those who in need. But the problem doing that is like the old ladies doing what you mentioned the scams. Even if some of the charities are legit what we been expose to leaves a bad taste in our mouths. I was watching a documentary about captive stray animals shelters. What i saw broke my heart. I saw the kennel cages was unclean. Filled with feicies and urine. Sone of the dogs had ticks on them. The faces of some of the dogs you can see they was depressed. Not much food in there bowls. I mean where the money to care for these animals? Other cats & dogs look like they been in fights with scares. It was crazy. Even if its people charoties like sick south american & African children living in un sanitary conditions like we see on those informercials. You know the kids with dirty faces. Playing in trash & mud landfills. Drinking the same water the animals bath or wash clothes in. Again where's the money for these folks.

Ton4UHere,

Welcome back, i really dont blame you. It is scammers out there. Telemarketers is like my worst enemy. They always want to sell you product you dont need. Or sell you things you dont want. Why would i buy something over the phone were i dont get to see the product to see it if its what i want or work. Then i have ask them to remove my number off your call back list. Then they want to go into a rebuttal. So then i have to get stern , maybe a little more forceful. Then i get the ok.

Saint judes is a cancer children hospital that treats sick children with the donations that comes in the families of the poor children can get treatment free of charge by our donations. Usually there's a 24 hr operator to answer questions. And at anytime i can cancel no questions asked. See thats legit. Not about people in bright orange vest preying on your pockets......you feel me.
