40 years since elvis left the building!
Did he influence your taste in music and do you remember where you were at the time and what you were doing?
Couldn't see any other posts about him so hopefully I've not doubled up!

I always remember hearing it on the radio in the car on a hot sunny day with my mom and my brother. Mom likes the king.

I was 15 yrs. old. I don't remember what I was doing at the time. But I do remember my Aunts being upset, they loved Elvis.

The Aunt that raised me listened to his music all the time, I liked it, but can't say it influenced my music taste. I'd was his movies though and used to fantasize about finding love blushing happy

How about you Mikey, did The King influence your music world?

I found a record last week by Ronnie McDowell titled "the king is gone" Heartbreak Hotel is the last song on side 2. Inside someone tucked the front page of The Tennessean from Friday, Aug. 19, 1977. 15 cents
Elvis Burial Hushed, Private
Rock'n'Roll King Entombed

That's cool integ!
Pisces, yes to an extent, my parents were into music, elvis was kinda in a level with tom Jones and other similar people. I think I appreciated him more as I got older. have a couple of favourites.

I saw him live in Vegas in 1972.
He was, well, bloated, but the voice was the same,
the charisma, the pull.

Something strange happened, which I will always remember.

Elvis finished his first song.
I jumped to my feet and clapped ALONG with everyone in the
audience, then I sat down rather quickly and then EVERONE
in the audience sat very quickly.
A phenomenon.

Took me a while to figure out that simultaneously everyone
had the idea to sit down as fast as they could so he could
get to the next song.

Like a friendly, quiet shark-frenzy :-)

I do not recall where I was when I heard the news but I refuse
to believe it.

They have already taken Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny
from us with these ridiculous rumors :-(

Never did like the guy. Thought his movies sucked and his music was over-produced smaltz for old folks. Wasn't surprised when I heard he died on the crapper in a drugged out stupor, and didn't care.

I like Elvis and still listen to his songs once in a while. But I don't remember what I was doing when he died. What I remember is how he died... he had a massive heart attack while sitting on his throne.

say what ya want but he took what was considered by many to be African American rhythm and blues, southern gospel and rock and roll to the mainstream market and reached across the globe with it. There is no denying the effect he had opening the market and on all the music that was produced by bands that came after him
