A student who received a staggering $1,080,000 instead of her usual $108 monthly university financial aid is in hot water after going on a massive 73-day spending spree with her friends. Accountancy student Sibongile Mani, 27, who was on benefits to allow her to study, was said to have undergone a Cinderella-like transformation overnight after the cash blunder. Mani, who studies at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa, gets $108 each month put into her bank account, which she is supposed to use to pay for food and book. But instead, Intellimali, the company that administers the financial aid allowances at the university, messed up and sent $1,080,000 in cash to ...

I sure as chit would not have spent it..because they
are going to get it back one way or the other.

On the other hand, I would also NOT penalize Cinderella
for being overwhelmed by temptation.

You go girl.

I got to thinking, knowing me, I might have toyed with them a wee :-)

By removing it from that account in cash and just stashing it while
we worked it out, intact, mind you.

See what kind of reward they are offering :-)

Sibongile Mani

First thing she should have done was change her name.

I would have placed it in high interest yeilds or something that would give maximum gain with no loss. I mean she is an accounting student right? Interest on one million eighty thousand dollars should be a significant increase over $108 per month?

wow!...if she were here, the IRS would be all over her like bears on honey...the financial hole they would put her in would be sooo deep, she could never dig out without a lotto or casino jackpot...classic examples have been game shows where contestants win luxury prizes...and then the tax bill comes...ai karoomba!

Maybe I am the weird one or maybe I am too honest, but I would contact financial aid. I would know it wasn't right and qould at least bring it to their attention. I don't wamt bad karma.

Throughout my life, I seem to have some sort of magic lamp above my head, that flashes a blinding red light to the authorities if I even THINK about doing something wrong. I call it the IGC lamp, which stands for I Get Caught. That's why I'm so honest: it isn't because I'm a "good person," I can assure you.

So for sure, I would have left the money in my account, and at worst, quietly waited for them to show up and take it back.

that flashing light is nothing to do with the authorities, it was your up bringing and morality you were taught.
