I would add, don't have really long first or second dates, even if you both like each other. I remember about 30 years ago I went on a first date and we decided to go to an outdoor flea market in the morning. A lot of walking for a couple of hours, then decided to go to an afternoon movie, then he wanted to show me his place, then had a snack, then just hanging out. It wound up being around 12 hours. That's just too much. I was trying to end it for many hours.

#2 should be the main rule.
Another way of expressing it is "Never sleep with anyone crazier than yourself."
Too few people pay any attention to that one. spock

"Don't act like a needy person"? The people that act like a needy person don't know they are acting like a needy person.

Thanx for the shout-out MzRozie
I find the site entertaing sometimes.

I think I would add

Don't make it out to be more than it is.

Not only the date but the things that are happening during the date.
I think if the date is to enter into an intimate relationship the best practice would be to be as normal as you possibly can and let your standard you be the impressive feature.

If you normally wouldn't eat at an expensive steakhouse don't take your date there unless it is a celebration.

Why wear a suit and tie if you normally wear jeans & a tee shirt?

Don't laugh unless you think its funny.

Be polite but be honest.

Maybe not 10 but...
- make sure you hear his voice before the date to make sure he don't sound like a squealing faggot... laugh Seriously, I been there when I hadn't... BIG mistake!

- Let him come to you, man makes the effort.

- Show genuine gratitude/appreciation when he does. Could even be a little pressie -it's the thought that counts- if he drives a long way to see you

- do offer to pay your half of the bill

- Show gratitude when he pays the bill

- If he doesn't pay, pay your half and delete him from your ball book.

- be playful, not just serious stuff

- Don't expect to meet your dream partner, expect to meet someone and have a nice afternoon. Helps to prevent disappointment each time

- pay close attention to anything you don't really like. He's on his best behaviour now, so it won't get better, if nothing else it'll get worse. So don't think "It'll change/improve", it won't. If his best behaviour is unpleasing, what if he's back to normal?

- Don't reach out to him all the time, including literally and energetically. So lean back, not forward towards him. Let him come to you, reach out.

- don't fill gaps with babbling. See if he can pick up the conversation, if he has the skills, and at the same time to find out if it's awkward silences or not.

Choose activities you like and share your passion for it with your date.

Suggest activities that you like and share your enthusiasm for them with your date.

If you are NOT having a good time. Suggest a change of activity or venue. Sometimes the atmosphere will not align with your mood.

You date may not know you get headaches if exposed to strobe lights or blacklights. They may not know you can only take crowds for a limited time.

Be observant of your date's body language and fatigue. Make a change in venue or activity level BEFORE it becomes a problem for them.

Been there before, got lost, asked a guy for directions and he was lost too. Stranded in the void.

I once heard

"If is smells like fish, put it on a dish.
If it smells like cologne, leave it alone."

Its pretty crude in my opinion but I get the sentiment.
