Hot Chocolate with Baileys (or another Irish Creme Liquor) is good too. Especially after sled riding.

It is perhaps one of the few restaurants open on the holiday. No specific dish, per se. Enjoy trying something new each time I am there. |

Christmas has become a hard time of year for my family, as my Father passed away on Christmas Eve day( 2 years ago)...... but I think he would be upset if we altered from our usual routine.
We always go for Chinese food on Christmas Eve....Christmas da, breakfast at my parents house, open gifts, hang out watch tv and play games while the turkey is cooking. |

Ill be alone. I can relate to that lu. A lonely time of the year for sure. With Mom and Dad both gone now and my son out on his own it will just be me and my thoughts. O well, at least I can go visit Mingle. |

In an effort to get into the Christmas spirit.. I'm going to make a 'Grinch Christmas Tree'..to put the gifts around..
Actually, I am not a fan of the Christmas commercialism and the pressure to buy something for someone.. I give and show all year long.. there will be friends and family and food.. |

A new question for those that will be spending Christmas alone this year...
Do you buy yourself a Christmas Present? Do you wrap said present and put it under the tree? When I first started spending the holidays alone (4 or 5 years ago) I made it a point to buy myself a Christmas present. Then it occurred to me that technically, its not really a present so I stopped. When I do buy presents, I make a big deal out of it so the person feels really special. The surprise is what matters most to me. Kinda hard to surprise yourself... |

Well my family all gets together at my brothers house the weekend before Christmas to have our big dinner..
Everyone brings a dish... Kids draw names and buy for each other... We use to do Chinese Christmas for the adults but that got to the point many times the gifts were not useful so we quit that... So now we play games with smaller gifts... We have a ornament exchange gift game where everyone brings a ornament... So all that play leaves with on... Then we play what is called the Left to Right game gift is only worth $5 but it gets hilarious when playing.... Then there is a huge gift basket that has odds and end small gifts in it with tags that have little sayings on them... everyone gets to pick from.. Last year my niece and I dressed up she was Santa I was a Elf came skipping from the pool house singing jingle bells with a pillow case full of candy to give out to all.... Now that was the hit of the day... Then Christmas eve and day everyone can do their own thing... Last year I cooked Christmas Day and stayed home pigged out and watched movies... Kids dropped by on Christmas Eve while making all their runs... I'm a true believer when you have kids that Christmas morning is family time with them at home in their pj's being able to stay home and play with their toys with their parents... Humm as far as buying gifts I only buy for my grand babies now no adults.... And yes I always buy myself something that I need or want.. This year I over did it hahahah ![]() |

i wouldn't call that over doing it. now a mingle sized yatch? that would be overdoing it ![]() Hahahah normally what I buy me is something I need for the house or under a $100.... well except when I bought my new recliner year before last but then I have got a lot of use out of that and well worth it... This year I went way above all that so this might be my Christmas present for a few years to come lol |

Seems since my grandmother passed (just over a year ago) the glue that kept the family together has desolved Normally we have our family xmas on xmas eve and have Tex-Mex food. Its all good, no worries. I apologize for not being clearer in my response. We have a lot of Mexican cusine in these parts, always packed at Christmas. Isn't it strange how some holidays lose that favorite feeling without certain people. You bring up a great discussion point about how some traditions are punctuated by specific personalities. That when that person is no longer around to bring it all together, its just not the same. Hard to put a finger on it sometimes. With my Dad it was that way. I've tried to keep him alive by making sure there is always ribbon candy and cordial cherries but his charm is missing and that, can never be copied. |

That is where Tex Mex comes in. Mom decided to do something different this year but we are traditional people so we will have queso, guacamole, tace ring....something lol Most think we are crazy because we go Tex Mex on xmas eve lol |

Actually, its pretty common around here. Either Mexican or Cajun. The Chinese reference makes me think of A Christmas Story (1983) with Darren McGavin, that scene was so funny. (smiling now) |

Off to Tofino BC to spend Christmas on the beach with my daughter and our dogs. Having our traditional seafood fondue Christmas Eve then goose with all the trimmings Christmas night. Go for a walk on Long Beach and a forest hike. It’s amazing. Seafood fondue sounds interesting. I love traditional fondue. Never had Goose. I looked at some of the recipes online but it looks a bit to complicated for me to make. I remember going dinosaur hunting one year with the boys. Even drew Offical Dinosaur Hunting Licenses for them. We didn't see anything but we had loads of fun tracking them. ![]() |
