Id say it depends upon the ex and the reason for the break.

Did they leave you or did you leave them?

Was there any attempt to fix the issue at hand or was there a rush to breakup?

Was there closure to the romance?

Once it is established that there are no romantic feelings from either party and once the EX can establish a respect for your new relationship and your new partner. I think remaining 'friends' is fine, but one on one time alone is too much of a potential to create insecurities and visiting should be done only in the presence of the new partner or in public.

Personally I hope everyone can be friends with their ex or at least respect each other..

I mean after all there was a point in time when..you actually loved the other person..
You think that would be worth holding onto wouldn't you.... at least be enough to treat each other decent... but what do I know

You should not be friends the reason why you split is that nothing was working nice between you and him isn't? If it is so he gonna be a good friend? Definately not. If you have childrens yes you should communicate about childrens not you. Your new relationship partner he should know that you are communicating, if you didn't let him know. The day he find that you are communicating your relationship will change in the opposite direction

I don't do the "friends with exes thing." Once it's over, it's over.

I believe it is one thing to not be able to share a life with someone. Those reasons can have nothing to do with being able to get along living separate lives though, IMHO.

I have an ex who is still a very good friend. The men I've dated since haven't been too happy about it. It's not like we hang out all the time or anything, so it's never been a real issue.

I am friends with most of my ex's (bfs and husband)

Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean I can't be friends.

We can talk about our daughter but nothing more uncomfortable
