There seems to be a lot of people that think of Horror movies as a taboo taste that is to be shunned.

They feel that someone that prefers horror movies has some dark trait that doesn't fit in with society.

I'm curious if you have ever been subject to such judgements based on your preference for horror movies?

I'm also curious if you have such reservations about others that do like horror movies?

When you see the genre Horror is it an attraction or a repulsion?

Has it always been so?

Is there a time when you liked horror movies but no longer do?

Is there a time when you didn't but now you do?

What can you name as the major factor that changed your affiliation to the horror genre?

Personally,
In the past, I saw horror movies and the people that liked them as a deviant personality trait.
I refused to watch any movie with a genre of horror assigned.

Then, my taste changed to the artistic quality of the shots depicted in films.
I started marveling at how that shot was done, what it took to get that effect.
I found a huge amount of creativity in the horror films I had previously shunned.

I started seeing all the different styles indicative to the horror genre as a wider expression of creativity.

This one has an okay ghost, that one has an amazing ghost.
What did it take to create such an image on film?
My preconceptions of people that like horror changed.
I started to understand the appeal.

One thing I truly believe is that anyone can like or dislike horror for their own reasons.

I know why I like it, just curious to know why you like or dislike it?

I love them. Horror movies are my favourite kind. I love the suspense and the shock. Even the cheesy 80’s ones lol

I can enjoy a cheesy horror film. But for the most part, I prefer more "smart" type horror films like The Descent, The Ring and even the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Studios churn them out simply because they are cost efficient and they know that their is an audience for them.

Since I started watching horror movies my appreciation has changed.
I've watch a lot of bad movies and bad horror makes up 80% of the genre.
I don't really call many movies 'horrifying' in that I felt horrified while watching them. Not anymore.
Before I started watching horror movies, slashers were horrifying to me. Probably because it was the least amount of fantasy needed for it to be true. I grew up knowing some pretty crazy people.
Now I see slashers as "How did they do that shot, cool makeup effect".

I loves me some monsters and creatures, I guess I always liked them since I was little. I don't really call them 'horrors' tho. More like "cool, check that thing out".

I see religious horror as purely fantasy and that includes ghosts, demons and possessions.

Psycological horror seems to be the best horror for me. But I still don't become horrified, more like interested. It takes refined acting skill to pull it off. James McAvoy in Split is a perfect example. Devil's Candy is another.

While I like horror movies I don't consider myself a fan. I'm not fanatic about horror, don't really collect anything or go to conventions. My preference is science fiction or fantasy with a bit of horror in it.
I have seen some cosplay that was very well done. I would cosplay Marvin the Martian before Freddy. Both are clowns but Marvin uses a "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator" where Freddy uses a glove to kill people. The "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator" kills larges masses and Freddy's glove kills one at a time.

I have found that real NEWS is the most horrifying show there is. That's because real people do really horrifying things to each other.
