The best way to love a man as a woman is just to respect him weather he is older or younger than you.

If you able to do that, you will always be happy together

Doesn't love require respect both ways?

Mutual respect is what is needed.

Wow, was it Confucius who once said, real knowledge is to know the extent of ones own ignorance.

I respect a lot of men I don’t date, so would hope we both have a little more than respect between us. But that respect is a two way street. Respect Street. tongue2

How about just loving someone for who and what they are? Total and unconditional acceptance. Also, how about admitting you need this person in your life? It seems like a tall order for most people today.

Certainly fall in line with above replies (mutual, two way street, etc) , and really like Charles' comment about acceptance.
...adding...One great component of love is to "earn" ones respect. I don't expect to "just" be respected and do not "demand" it. Call me old fashioned. I'll put in the work.

Hey, lets not pick on this guy...he's from a part of the world where the men are trained in the art of 6th century logic! For that time period he would have been considered to be quite the progressive in that time period. Don't bother him with 21st century thought processes....his head might explode...keep it simple! he does!

lol.....rethinking historical definition of my "old fashioned" comment

This! If that's not good enough, then I guess I'm not the right one for the man, or vice versa.

And when it comes to respect, it's a two way street that needs to be earned from both sides.

though we all need respect and love equally, I believe studies show that men function much more from a base of feeling respected and feel loved if respect is there

where as women function much more from a base of feeling loved, and feel respect if love is there

So I would consider the ideal to be to both love and respect each other, emphasizing to a man that he is respected(So he will feel loved) and emphasizing to a woman that she is loved(so she will feel respected).

Very well put msharmony. I was tired last night when I posted and thinking from a different perspective. I see now that the OP most likely was trying to explain that men feel loved when women show that they respect them.

It's like the book "Five Languages of Love", there are different ways we feel most loved. I've heard from a lot of men that the one they had been with them didn't love them, and it was based on the woman not showing appreciation or respect.

The comment I had made about respect being earned is one I'd like to retracted. Not sure why I said that other than I was tired and not thinking clearly. I've never really expected a person to earn my respect, least not initially... it's given freely simply because I feel we all deserve respect for who we are as a person. We exist and therefore we matter and are here for a reason. I respect that.

Now if someone I know betrays my trust or a stranger acts in such a way that I have no respect for their behavior, then at that point I need for them to show me something different, over time, in order to regain that respect.
