Have you had the experience to travel to another city or country to meet someone in person? Or..

Have you been visited by someone from another city or country to meet you?

Let's see that...

I have met 2 men from out of state who traveled to meet me in person. Also a few travel to me from in my own State. None from my town.

The gentleman I met on paid Relationships site. They traveled.

Unfortunately, they weren't for me, I m seeking a life long mate. And I'm picky.bigsmile

Dating is just to learn who the man is.

You don't really know til you meet in person! Many just play on free sites.

Yes to both... it was unforgettable almost dreamlike happy  the people I’ve met and the places I’ve seen will always be in my memory bank where I hope it can stay.

I have had several men drive between 1 - 3,5 hours to meet me though, which in my country means from the other side of the country.

Is it any different from meeting someone close to home? Not really. It's a meet & greet.
The only thing that I sometimes found awkward is cutting the date short if you don't click cos he's driven so long. So I do my best to at least have a nice date for about an hour.
The problem is, they are almost always seriously disappointed when I say I'm not interested, which doesn't make it any easier.

I had a bad experience, I knew a man in a chat, we talked for 3 months, I went to his city to meet him, after 4 hours of travel I met him but he tried to get by force more than a dinner with me...

When you travel to meet someone, especially if an overnight is required, the expectations better be clearly discussed before the trip. I'm not much for making the entire trip myself, much prefer a central location and we both travel.

I met 4 guys from different towns on a dating site, not this one. I did all the driving, and one lived 400 miles away. I never stayed in contact with 3 of them. After a couple of years, made contact with one, only texts.

The very first person I met from online, was from very far away (Colorado), and we met up with the expectations of JUST to say hi as online forum friends, nothing more.

Which was excellent, since it was the very first time I was meeting ANY female after officially getting my Virginia Separation decree, and moving to my own place.

It was terrifying nonetheless. I had panic attacks and almost backed out of it, because of them, again, despite planning on not even THINKING about anything romantic. Probably due to having been married for twenty years, and feeling as though I was cheating, even though I obviously was anything but.

Anyway, everything went just fine. We had a nice meal, chatted a bit, I calmed down, and we parted as much friends as before, continuing to chat online as such.

I do think that distance has nothing to do with compatibility, it's just a rather hefty impediment to getting to know anyone. Most people CAN'T uproot themselves entirely, in order to move across the face of the planet to ATTEMPT to make things work with someone, and the feeling of my being a disappointment to someone after all that would be too much to bear for me, so I am loathe to take the risk.

I use one dating website that encourages group events.
I have never attended but if there was an event scheduled realtively close by, I would consider attending.
I might drive 200 miles to get there.

I asked M2 community if they have ever done a group meet and one of the responses said, yes and they even posted a picture of the meet.
A small group but very encouraging.

One thing that a group event has going for it is the sense of safety in numbers. I would consider meeting a woman for the first time in a group event. Camping trip, picnic at a lake, river float, snowmobile adventure or even a city tour as a group.

The only set-back would be the formation of social groups within the group itself. With the right people, that might not happen.
Then there are the hidden addicts and alcoholics.

I've read some pretty awful accountings of group events because of the conflict created by posturing coupled with substance abuse.
Not something I would be interested in.
Likewise tho, I have read more accountings of very favorable activity that solidifies online friendships with real-life experiences. I very much would like that.

But only after quality time via many many video chats and emails...and only after that "intangible bond" had grown significantly...and only after my inner gut says "time for a face-to-face"...and finally, it helps to have the means to do it...

I dated 2 men from Las Vegas. I drove and stayed in apartments and did other things there.. It was fun for awhile; I'm staying local now because I can never get off work now to travel.
