My point is what if you are wrong and there is a higher purpose. It would be best to keep an open mind because there are signs everywhere and we choose to ignore them.

I know what your point is.
The thing about 'signs' is that they are always open to interpretation.
Truths are always open to interpretaion.
Reality requires no interpretation or validation, it just is.
Reality doesn't care if you believe in it or not, it just is.
Life is reality, it just is.
It doesn't matter what conditions I put on it.
Life is just life until it isn't life anymore.
Death is not a thing, it is the absence of life but only if life was there in the first place.
When a person dies, they are not aware they are dead, they are not aware of anything ever again. They are no longer a person, they are a corpse. DEAD.

I used to very strongly belive in an after-life. That my essence continued on with me being me. What I finally realized was that me being me is a side effect of being alive.

Death is like being knocked out for surgery. Its a blank spot.
What makes you, you is removed but life continues without you.
Its that separation of you from the reality of being alive that reinfoces my opinion that life has no meaning, in and of itself.
Therefore, any meaning I choose to define life is a delusion of reality.

I find peace and contentment in that.
Others find peace and contentment in the delusion.
I don't expect others to find peace and contentment according to my criteria. If others have peace and contentment, who am I to demand they forgo their contentment in favor of mine?

But...If others do not have peace and contentment, I offer my solution as a consideration.
If they do or don't adopt it is up to them, not me.

A psychic made me ponder the meaning of life when 20 years after I saw her, everything she said, recorded on a cassette tape, came true. Even the things I couldn't believe and made me angry at the suggestion.
It's a weird world out there, and it seems you can't fight it, so I just go with the flow in doing my own thing against the flow.
Whatever I did and do must be right, because she said it and it all came true.
I don't know if they (psychics) tap into the Akashic Record, or what, but it is real, somehow.
I get feelings of intuition, but don't see anything; I really need those lotto numbers. laugh

the meaning of life is both finding yourself and then being true to yourself.

once you have discovered this, you will see the flaws in everyone else's advice

Whatever causes you contentment and joy, works for you. By all means do it.

I have a different take on psychics, fortune-telling and astrology readings.
It has to do with subliminal engrams set in place by the reader that cause you to conditionally but sub-consciously fulfill their prophecy.
You set yourself up to be open to the conditions that manifest as prophecy fulfilled.
The power of suggestion is powerful on some minds.
Without such readings, events may or may not have turned out very differently. May or may not have turned out the same.

Then there is the power of association.
Where a keyword or phrase uttered during the reading is so general it is more likely to happen normally and the mind links the phrase with the event. Suddenly they were right.
It was the substance of the TV show The Mentalist.

I also thought psychics made us self-prophecize until one accurately told me that I would need surgery and he understood the details of the condition. He told a co-worker to take care of his heart condition and he was right about him, too. These cases do not fall into the self-prophecy category or the general/power of association category which you described. Some psychics have gifts and extra sensory abilities to see the future. Not everything can be explained by logic and reason. The universe is a vast and mysterious place.

I agree there are people that pay close attention to detail and can 'see' health problems. Even dogs have been known to sniff parts of the body that are diseased. Are the dogs profits? Or...are they acutely aware?
People can be acutely aware too. They notice the signs of disease in others and are generally right most of the time.
Being able to accurately read body language is not a psychic ability, its a disciplined ability.

The universe is a vast and mysterious place.

Yes it is.
Most people can't grasp even the simplest conditions.
There is a lot of people that don't really know or understand what a light year is.
The Universe is chaos to our species but there might be a species that finds order in the chaos.

How we choose to live is all that matters.

"Subliminal engrams cause to conditionally but sub-consciously fulfill their prophecy."

That may be so first hand - first person, but the people who I never divulged the info to still did exactly what I was told they would, including breaking my heart completely; having children; and dying rapidly with no real warning - although I dreamed about it beforehand but missed the true meaning at the time.

And since womankind deserted me in the best years of my life, I had no marriage, good relationships, children, or family life. There goes the procreation meaning.

So now my meaning of life is "I'm still here you bastards".
I will not end it all and let the bains of my existence win.
I will hang around and outlive the so and so's who made my life a misery.
Take that !

So here I am, still wasting my time hoping for love to happen one day.
waiting, waiting, waiting, getting pissed off but still waiting. what

In my life I often expect things and they come to pass.
I don't consider it mysterious.

A simple example is when I was working I moved to a town that was 63 miles one way drive to work everyday. I worked the evening shift. My drive home was at 1-2 am after a hard 10 hour day.
I expected to hit a deer some night. I never hit a deer, what I did hit was a huge owl one night. It hit the windshield directly in front of my face and I almost wrecked the car. I knew I was going to hit something and I did.
When I moved to Mississippi I had my truck fully loaded, was pulling a U-Haul. It was snowing and I was moving about 45 miles per hour. I crested a hill and a deer ran out in front of me and I couldn't stop.
I ran the deer over and turned it to hamburger with the truck and trailer.
I expected something bad to happen on the trip and it did.

Just recently I got a seatbelt ticket. I usually wear my seatbelt. I didn't and got caught. It wasn't bad luck. It wasn't destiny. It was because I unwittingly set myself up to fail.

During my marriage many people told me how my X really was. I paid it no never-mind. I refused to see it. When I finally did, it all made sense.
All those people were not psychic, the saw something I didn't see.

If somebody plants the seeds in your head, many times those seeds subconsciously grow and become reality. We don't notice until they are fully grown. Many times we unknowingly tend them to maturity.

I have a really good memory.
I have had a lot of really messed up things happen to me in my life since birth. Some of it was not my doing but much of it was.
I should be a very angry, resentful man but I'm not.
Mainly because my wisdom gained makes me realize that its not others but myself, that controls my life.
I am in charge of my decisions and I control my contentment.
I still set myself up for bad things to happen unwittingly but I realize that its my actions not the prophecy of others that causes them to come to pass. If I don't learn the lesson, I gain no wisdom and it will happen again and again.

Finding 'meaning' in something is a human only trait I suspect.

I'm sure the other animals don't look for meaning - life just is - either you live or die. You get away, or you are food.

We search for meaning in art, and literature, animals just see 'stuff'.

We search for meaning in music, animals just hear noise.

But what is life to have any meaning, - the recycling of phosphate ions in mitochondria creating useful biological energy to do bodily stuff in order to survive. Survival is the meaning of life. happy

You do know we are animals, right?

Survival is the meaning of life.

I see survival as a condition for life.
Everything living seeks to survive. If not life ends.
How you seek to survive is your choice.
Your choice might have meaning to you but the act is an imperative.

I believe this -> "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
-- Abraham Lincoln

very true ... but hard to grasp sometimes ...
knowing life is like that ... you may only have today ...
I think we forget about that ...

That right there. If more people could eliminate the "god in the sky" mentality, and understand that life is simply life and there is nothing else ither than right now (no tomorrow, no yesterday), people wpuld so much happier, free.

Today i heard news of a young person who died during child labor. And it made me think and meditate upon life. There is a way to triple this brief life. What if i decided to celebrate my birthday once a month? #Cheapthrills Stuff. Meaning in 2 years i would be 24 years older mentally. Just like light years or dog years.. if 1000 years are like one day to God that means that God years also exist:innocent: It's all about mental attitude. It is all in the mind.

Anne Frank lived only 16 years from (1929–1945). If you are reading this you will never be popular than her. Jesus Christ lived 33 years. You will never be popular or command more faith than him too. Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27. Drug overdose of course.
Martin Luther King lived 39 years (1929–1968). Malcom X lived 39 years too (1925-1965) . Both men exited under duress(assassination).
Jeff Buckley died on May 29, 1997 at age 30. He drowned in the Mississippi River, where he enjoyed swimming.

Heath Ledger-one of my best actors Died in 2008, at age 28.
Jim Morrison too Died in 1971, at age 27,a very talented guy.

My favorite rapper Tupac Shakur Rapper Died in 1996, at age 25. Marvin Gaye died on April 1, 1984 at age 44. He was shot by his father, who used a gun that Gaye had given him as a gift.

Bruce Lee died on July 20, 1973 at age 32. He had a brain condition called cerebral edema. Diana, Princess of Wales died on August 31, 1997 at age 36.Marilyn Monroe made her exit at 36 1926–1962.

Find something you love doing (other than sex).
A calling, that you enjoy and live happily doing it.
When you're not living for yourself, you're eating, farting, sleeping, squandering natural resources and producing consumer wastes.
If you can find someone who likes you for you, because your good looks will whither away someday.
Make the most of it and treat each other decently.
Grow old together.

I would think all the people he described was doing every thing they loved at the time of their untimely demise, except for Anne Frank she didn't have a chance because of those evil Nazi bastards.
