Why are men so incredibly attracted to masculine women like Sigourney Weaver (Alien) and Carry Anne Moss (Trinity, Matrix)?
So not just the behaviour, being all macho, but also that type of women with masculine square jaw lines, no curves, too skinny which makes their faces appear that masculine I suppose.

What is the appeal? I'd say a woman like that would make a man feel emasculated but I clearly remember how men were drooling over Sigourney Weaver when Alien first came out. I never understood, hence my question.

Also, if you find such women attractive in movies, what if you'd meet a similarly masculine looking and masculine energy woman in real life? Would you then still feel the same way and make attempts to pursue her and date her? Would you want your life partner to be that way?
Or is it just a fascination on the white screen, not something you'd wanna take home to momma?

Just out of curiosity.

That's an unusual question, Crystal, but good. I'm not a man, but I think there are guys that like the tougher side of women. They like a woman that doesn't have to have painted nails and not afraid of getting dirty. Speaking of movies, I always admired the character that Karen Allen played in "Raiders of the Lost Arc."

For me, ZERO. They don't appeal to me at all. I like a woman to look like a woman. Curves in all the right places. I don't want to lay down with a woman that reminds me of a man. YUCK!

Well,
When the bedtime wrestling match begins you don't have to worry about breaking them... bigsmile

The Porcelain dolls are just too fragile...

My two cents...

There has to be a middle ground somewhere. I'll sit and listen.

Well, I'm not sure what the appeal in the women you mentioned is. But as a random male subject for your survey, here are my insights to your question:

-People typically are attracted to others who compliment their weaknesses, so maybe in the case of those you are curious about, it could be that particular affection.

-But it could also be the case of a Jungian anima projection.

-It could also be the case of a socially constructed ideal of beauty.

The question is subjective and valid answers are myriad.

Personally I noticed my attraction to different types of women throughout my life has varied. For example, I know of a particular homeless girl who is very rugged and I find her attractive. Of course, I could still beat her up, but it's sexy to me that she can be tough and not cry about everything and expect EVERYTHING, blaming all her own shortcomings on me (like so many women who are better off than her), just because I'm a man. While at the same time I've met very beautiful and privileged women who I couldn't ever bear to sleep with, because I find their lack of compassion and hypocrisy utterly revolting.

And then, there's the matter of being appreciated. I was very much in love with an older woman who was not very attractive by typical physical standards to most, but through her attitudes and gestures towards me I was rock hard for her (LOL, pardon my vulgarity). The way she dolled herself up for me, she would cancel plans just to be around me, I felt like I would do anything to please her. So there's a matter of reciprocity I suppose?

Anyway, there will be some guy out there who clicks with you in that way, who will be helplessly enamored with you, I'm sure. Good luck!

I have never thought of sigourney as masculine .. she often portrays a very strong , independent , intelligent , confident woman ... a heroine .. characteristics which either gender can possess . Her body is athletic and fit .. again not masculine waving

Do you remember Linda Hamilton from the Terminator movies? In the first one she was so feminine but by the second one she was jacked and hard looking. I thought to myself "what the hell?" So I know to what you refer but it's not my cup of tea either. It's kind of funny that none of the men so far go for that. Honestly, I think the only kind of guys who are into that look would be those who spend an equal amount of time in the gym as those women do. Then they can be fitness freaks as a couple.

You're cute Cat. You do look like a girl. It's kinda like what another poster said about Linda Hamilton. At one time she looked like a girl. She was cute. At least to me. By the second movie, it was kinda hard to figure out what she was. She cut her hair really short. She looked like she could kick just about any man's azz.

And by the way, Some men like women that are short and cute. The woman I've been seeing as of late, she is 4ft 10. I'm 5ft 10. I look like a giant next to her. She is small enough to hide behind me.

I get exactly what you mean. Linda Hamilton indeed has a an air of femininity, yet at the same time somehow it feels weird or off.
And the first thing I thought of when you mentioned her... again a woman with such a square jaw.

Haha, making me laugh.
Does that mean you found/find these women -or similar to them- attractive?

Thanks, Cat! I do think that some men are attracted to a woman who is more natural so to speak. But thing is, these women look so masculine, yet many men found them highly attractive.
Both also look older than their age. I always thought Trinity was much older than Neo (Matrix movies). I always found it strange that they matched them up, him being almost a kid still, her being so old.
Then I read that Carry Anne Moss is younger than Keanu Reeves. noway

And yes, good movie and Karen Allen played it well. I watched all Indiana Jones movies again not that long ago :)

everybuddy likes what they likes because they likes it. no rhyme or reason sometimes.

...aaaand we are all varying combinations of 'masculine' and 'feminine'. yes?

Up to a point I think, yes.
But then that would mean that men who found them -and such women- attractive wouldn't be very masculine and/or not very empowered in their masculinity (yet).
Actually, that's what I'm curious about. What's the 'effect' of such a woman?

Thank you, and that first part in particular, yes, that's what I'm thinking too.
I'm not asking for me, lol. I'm not worried about me. I just have an inquisitive mind and interest in psychology, especially when it comes to masculinity and femininity, anima, animus and so on.

My late wife was a feminine woman, but, she used to say that in order to pioneer the American frontier, a woman had to be tough. One thing females have over men is the ability to control pain in childbirth. There are some advantages they have over us men. They can do a split, and men can't.
