The Trump administration is expected to issue a proposal in coming weeks that would make it harder for legal immigrants to become citizens or get green cards if they have ever used a range of popular public welfare programs, including Obamacare, four sources with knowledge of the plan told NBC News.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security said: "The administration is committed to enforcing existing immigration law, which is clearly intended to protect the American taxpayer by ensuring that foreign nationals seeking to enter or remain in the U.S are self-sufficient. But that being said. Considering the argument posed. There is logic to the perception that we want to 'protect taxpayer funds'. I wonder why the same administration does not see have that same type of prioritizing between illegal immigrants who have cause danger (crimes) to 'taxpayers' and those who merely grew up here peacefully? Why treat all illegal immigrants the same, but divide legal immigrants into categories based on finances? |

We are already deporting illegals who have commited crimes. Even as simple as a dui.
I agree that we shouldn't be accepting people who are here for the welfare gravy. Life is about choices. Too many people are choosing welfare over doing what it takes to create a better life. We have too many underachieving already. |

I dont know if being here 'for the welfare' is the same as "EVER" having needed it. Perhaps the banks should not extend credit to anyone who has EVER filed bankruptcy, seems an extremely punitive and pointless exercise, IMHO. |

Illegals sure know a lot about how to get the gravy to not be coming here for it.
Banks normally make people wait 7 years after a forecloser to ever give them another loan. They have to be employed and rebuilt their credit. My tenant messaged me last night about a rent to own agreement. I asked her if she meant until she could get a loan from the bank. She said no a private one. It's hard to ever get another loan |

You can put several different people in the same situations. Some will thrive and some will be a drain on society.
Personally I would rather have a man who got into a fight once become a citizen, than a breeder with 6 kids looking for a handout. Being irresponsible isn't a crime but it punishes responsible tax payers. Our welfare system rewards the lazy and punishes the working and responsible. It's time America chooses assets for our country instead of drains. |

I have no objection to enforcing the laws as such, though obviously, the Republican Party and Trump in particular clearly do NOT believe in enforcing the law consistently (they've made it clear they only want it enforced firmly against Democrats).
But in this kind of case, what I wonder, as a taxpayer who doesn't want my money misused, is whether the cost of chasing down who benefits from something unfairly, is actually SAVING money, or of it costs me far more, than allowing an occasional "freeloader" to slip by. |

I don't think it would take a lot of chasing. If you've been on welfare for over a year, cut it off. Leave it to the recieptients to provide an explanation why they still need help. If the answer is I'm pregnant again, too damn bad.

Any illegals should be put through legal process for citizenship or be deported
US has enough citizens. Living on government assistance and Americans should always come first, in helping them have basic needs. If you don't work , you don't eat unless you are on Disability. That should be a new law!! If a person Retired from a job and drawing that income that's ok too. |

ESPECIALLY ones from SOUTH of the border!! they seem to have absolutely NO PROBLEM with people from CANADA who immigrate to this country!! OR,like Donald trump said....people from places like NORWAY are perfectly welcome to come here!! so,lets just be honest,and start calling it like it actually IS... it is NOT a war against IMMIGRANTS.... it is a war against IMMIGRANTS OF COLOR!!! and an attempt to set the progress that this country has made back DECADES,and make racism socially acceptable in this country again,and bring us back to the 'good ole days' where 'jim crow' laws were the norm! |

 I am for merit based immigration. The days 9f people coming here to work for a better life are long gone. They need to send all illegals home and let them apply for citizenship.
