Topic: How Far is Too Far To Date?

It depends on the person in perceiving what is too far. I would agree that 10 miles sounds a decent distance especially in getting to know someone well enough and being able to meet up frequently.

I think you would have to meet up frequently to really get to know one another. A weekend here or there wonโ€™t cut it. I want to be sure this time or should I say more surer :joy:

An hour and a half's drive, two hours max.

If it's a meet and greet: no more than 14 kms, which is about 10 miles I think.
That is from me to the farthest restaurant I like. I do not drive further than that for a meet and greet :)

LOL

my metro area is about 50 miles wide and 100 miles long

10 miles is considered pretty close.

Not more than 15 miles.

I have tried long distance before. There were a few problems.

A couple of men thought that if they came for the weekend for a first time meeting they would automatically get sex.

Nope NO ONE gets sex the first time I meet them. Just because he comes from far away is no reason to commit to sex with a person I havenโ€™t met yet. Needless to say we never met.

But there are issues of time and cost of traveling. There are no spontaneous dates. It costs money to travel back and forth. It takes time to drive a couple of hours there and back.

I donโ€™t think you really get to know someone on weekend visits. It is too easy to be on your best behaviour. Do an extra cleanup before the person arrives. You donโ€™t get to see the true person. Even a day to say slob might clean up before a visit and then revert to old behaviour after the visit. So who are you really meeting?

As the relationship progresses you may stay over more often and get a better idea of who the other person is. Plus if problems arise you would have a greater chance to see reactions and responses. These perspectives are very important to the development of the relationship.

So long distance isnโ€™t an option for me

10 miles for a meet and greet... I don't drive further than that. Doesn't mean to say I'm looking for a man within a 10 mile perimeter, preferably not!
And I am willing to drive further for a date, but NOT the meet & greet. tongue2
I've never had a man cancel a meet & greet when I conveyed that message in a nice feminine way. I've had man drive some 3 hours, once even 3,5 hours, for a meet & greet.
One who didn't live too far away, I'm guessing some 45 mins by car, didn't have a car and came on a moped thing. Lord knows how long that took him, hihi. But he DID come, and didn't regret it either, even though it didn't go anywhere.

for me if moving is not an option and it's long term dating then not much more than 1/2 an hour away. beyond that the mid week come on over for dinner and a movie trip does not work well.

^^^ This makes sense, I wouldn't want to be further away than that either if moving wasn't going to happen.

This is a really difficult question to answer. If only dating, I'm not driving more than 50 miles, so less than an hour.

Thatโ€™s why I asked it lol. I want to remain realistic when talking to men.

I used to limit it to walking out my front door and shouting, but I live on a cul de sac now. If I'm ever single again that would be problematic.

For typical dating, I would travel about 30 miles, maybe 50....but that's a stretch.

For someone truly special, I'd travel virtually any distance. Eventually one of us would have to move. I would consider moving just about anywhere in the U.S.

I agree with that half hour thingie for the midweek...
In my case that is pretty FU though...
half an hours east doesn't get me off this island, well, maybe if traffic is okay, but then I'm in the middle of nowhere on a long stretch of landfill with a dual carriage way on it. No houses.

Half hour south gets me 1 island down, also kind of in the middle of nowhere, I can't make it to the bigger town on that island in half an hour.

Half hour west... Can't get more than about 20 mins west, then I'm in the North Sea

Half hour North... gets me 2 islands up, smack in the middle of serious Christian country, no friggin way, lol.

I really have to move house... grumble
