Eh they walk up with the ticket in hand here. Hell i got pulled over once because i had a license plate light ou. When i told the cop i removed the wire because i only needed one by law. He said the other was fluckering. I goy home and tested the light. It never flickered but i replaced the wire and am just waiting for the next stop.

Will probably be one of my magnets will be iffensive to someone. sad

I did this, about 30 years ago. Just so I don't get anyone in trouble, I won't mention the state I did this in.

I was buying pickups down south, and driving them back north to sell. I could clear $500-$1000 per truck, because they were rustless. A buddy was buying them for me, I'd ride my bike down to get them. Load the bike in the back, drive home. This, was a 500 mile trip.

My last trip for the year was in late october. It was cold, and sprinkled rain on me all the way. I expected that it would warm up the further south I went. No such luck. At 400 miles I Was ready to be done with this trip. So I'm flying down the Interstate at about 85, I go sailing past a state cop hiding in the median strip. I saw him just as I went past, Nuts! I'm cooked! Haul it over, get my ticket. I stopped so fast, the trooper went flying past me and he stopped about 200 feet ahead of me. I expected him to just a bit upset about it. Surprise! He thought it was rather funny that I'd reacted so fast. By the time he walked back to me, I had everything out and ready for him, and I freely admitted that I was doing 85. He was quite the descent sort, and just wrote me up for 71 in a 55. I then asked if I could just call, and pay the ticket. I could, no problem. Ticket in hand, off I went and finished the trip.

Once home, I called down to the courthouse. They couldn't find the paperwork on the ticket, could I call back in a week? Sure, I didn't want to have an unpaid ticket warrant on me. A week later, they had it, $141 bucks. UGH! Well, I did it, I pay it. Because it was during the holidays, I very neatly forgot to pay it! Crud, ok, so I call down again in February, tell them I'm sorry, forgot to pay it. So, how much? Figuring I'd have a penalty to pay. The Fine went to $82 bucks! I sure WASN'T going to question that one! Ok, mail the fine in. Then I FORGOT it again! Getting near Memorial day, and my next trip down, I remembered that unpaid ticket again. So I asked an attorney friend of mine what to do. Even if it's late, pay it, so you won't get arrested for an outstanding warrant, if I get stopped again. So I called again, thinking I'd be fined for non-payment, so I asked again. So what's my fine? $34 bucks! That time, I just dropped everything and made my fine payment.

Since when do speeding fines go down??? Did I feel lucky? Wouldn't you?

In my city the police are awesome. They really serve the people. In the next city over they are a menace. $1000 fine for not picking up after your dog.

You mostly don't get pulled over for speeding, they use cameras. So about a week later you get the fine in the mail.

I've been pulled over once, about 15 years ago, because my headlight wasn't good. I didn't get fined though, but I did have to change it otherwise I wasn't allowed to drive on.

Last time I got a fine for driving too fast, 4-5 years ago, driving 84 km on an 80 km road.

They allow for some 2 km p/hr for gauge deviations.

I got a ticket for no seat belt once that was $10.
I paid the ticket by mail and it was done.
About 6 months later, I got pulled over because that X flicked a cig out the window and the cop assimed she was flicking it at him.
It was 2:30 am and I was coming home from a 14 hour shift at work.
I was driving.
The cop ran my license and it came up that I didn't pay my seatbelt fine and I had a warrant open.
He took me to jail.
I was finger printed and DNA recorded and thrown in the "holding tank'.
The X went home, got $10 and bailed me out.
About 2 weeks later, I received a check from the city for $10.
Seems they were in error and refunded my money.

I spent hours in jail because they fugged up.

My last ticket was on St Patrick's Day for a seatbelt violation.
I went to court, paid the fine.
The fine here was $81.
I keep a copy of my receipt in my wallet behind my license.
No way I am allowing cops to throw me in jail again because they can't do their bookkeeping.

Other than that, I have not had a mark against my license in 10 years.
I have been driving since 1977 and only got two speeding tickets in my life.

I don't know how young I was when I learned that its better when you are caught in something wrong to own up to it and face the consequence. So no, I take the ticket and move on. If I have a legitimate gripe about it, I can bring it up in court.

Two good friends of mine are a retired local detective and a retired state trooper they both told me long ago to drive 5 over the limit on the hiway/freeway and you'll never get stopped. I've been doing as they suggested for 30 years and haven't been stopped. I do however do a walk around my car every couple of weeks to check that all lights, etc. are working AND...AND I obey all traffic rules and laws. A leftover habit from all the years "driving dirty". Many years ago I used to drive thousands of miles with a lot of illegal substances, never caught!
