When it comes to finding a partner I find it important that he does not drink a helluva lot. I'm not sure how much of a deal-breaker it is or not, I guess that depends on how much the guy drinks and what exactly.
Thing is, I always get the impression that most men 40-50 yrs old drink quite a lot. As in every day.

So... my question is about that. Are there men -esp around that age- who do not drink daily and never drink all that much or maybe as good as never?

Yes there are men around that age who do not drink ever. I would classify myself as close to that. The last time I had a drink was a year ago so I would think of myself as do not drink.

It would indeed be a deal breaker for me if the guy drank too much. My father was an alcoholic and I wouldn’t want to be around drunks again.

Deal breaker for me too crystal :gem::hearts:

Lots of single guys around me but they drink every day or spend their days smoking weed or both......
I enjoy both but not every day all day

After a lifetime of Olimpic Gold Medal drinking ,I managed to totally quit at 60 ,I now detest the stuff and could not form a relationship with any lady who was not alcohol free ,I often think that is why I have not met anyone on here ,same goes for smoking I quit that probably about 50

Heck, I thought it took mass consumption to put up with the drama :>)

Oh, then I get why you dislike it.
I'm not entirely sure why I detest it -which I do- but I think it has to do with my parents drinking every night when I was a teenager. And that usually ended up in loud arguments that woke me up. My dad couldn't handle his drink and would get all whingy and whiny. Horrible!
I really cannot stand drunk people which is why I always go home early when I go out. I want to be gone before most are drunk.

Wow, surprised to find out more women feel this way!!
I sometimes enjoy a very light beer or a rosΓ© but only on specific occasions. And if it's not there I'm equally happy.
But in my experience alcohol does enter the scene when you have a guy in your life and they find it strange when you don't want to have a drink.

I think you deserve an Olympic Gold Medal for successfully giving up on 2 addictions after so many years.
Since I quit smoking almost 10 weeks ago I understand what a feat that is!

Well, I also don't think you'd want a man so in that sense whether he drinks or not doesn't matter, hihi.

But I know you're alcohol-free. Which is great!!

I will drink maybe 2 night out of a month and some months not at all though I'm not specifically against drinking more than that if there are things going on. I almost never drink enough to get "drunk".
I think some one having to drink every day should be a deal breaker (unless you want to drink every day too) Its not even something you should try to work with .. you should avoid it %99.

I'm joining that club also, my ex is a functional alcoholic, I do not like being anywhere near anyone who drinks alcohol every day. And the same with smoking weed, I smoke it but not on days when I am working, dated a guy who constantly smoked weed all day so no thanks to that

You're most welcome haha.
I don't like it either when someone smokes weed. Too many bad experiences with that with an ex. I didn't like the effect it had on the family, including my kids, who'd otherwise never have gotten in touch with it.
At some point it seemed everyone on this island was into some form of drugs. I even heard from some parents -that I'd held in quite high regard- that they'd made a space cake. Then my then partner's son had nicked some 5 whole weed plants from a woman in the village. Again someone I'd never taken for a drug user. It was shocking to discover.

Anywho, I want nothing to do with it.

Now I don't think someone who drinks every day gets drunk necessarily.
My ex liked to drink a beer when he got home from work. Not regular beer, special beers, which I assume contain more alcohol, although I'm not sure.
But I didn't totally like that either, even though he didn't get drunk, not even close.
So in a way there's little argument but it didn't sit well with me. The partner I had a long term with before that starting drinking beer on a daily basis (more than 1 bottle) after he quit smoking. Also not getting drunk btw.

I've decided that I don't want that again and was then wondering if that was too demanding.
From what I read here it's not.
