After a lifetime of Olimpic Gold Medal drinking ,I managed to totally quit at 60 ,I now detest the stuff and could not form a relationship with any lady who was not alcohol free ,I often think that is why I have not met anyone on here ,same goes for smoking I quit that probably about 50

I think you deserve an Olympic Gold Medal for successfully giving up on 2 addictions after so many years.
Since I quit smoking almost 10 weeks ago I understand what a feat that is!

My uncle was an alcoholic and partly died from it, got attacked a few times on my way home by drunken teenagers. I don't want to end up like either of them sad2

I would fit in your club also; I was never a good drinker even as a kid when I tried to be and I've never really liked the alcohol buzz or high. My dad was an alcoholic and I understand it was self-medication, he was a Korean war Marine who'd done a lot of killing* and back then they didn't know how to deal with PTSD or even try. My grandfather his dad was an alcoholic also but he never went to war. I'm not sure why he drank.
I can't remember the last time I drank but I'm sure it's been well over a year and it's been much longer since I was drunk, being in the business I was in drinking and all kinds of dope were a regular thing for a very high percentage of the people I was around. One good friend who was very famous that died about a year and a half ago went through treatment 40 or 50 times in his life (this is not an exaggeration)!
I have done it all as far as drugs go and had a serious cocaine addiction back from around !985 until 1991. We almost never (esp me) did meth, it was considered cheap and low class and it (meth) use would be a deal breaker for me, I actually only did it I think 3 times. Once was when another friend and I who's name many of you would know drove non-stop from El Paso, Texas to Calgary. Alberta I've never have understood the meth thing , It's just not my idea of a good time.
I have and do smoke weed fairly regularly and have for 47 years but find the older I get the less often I smoke.

Having done them all I will say that meth is the worst drug of all followed my alcohol.

*In over 50 years my dad talked about his war experiences a total of maybe 5 minutes. I've found the guys that did the most talk about it the least,
I have many friends that are and were Vietnam veterans and have learned a lot from them.

Wowza, that's quite the past. I think that's sort of how my ex got into it. The showbiz and rock 'n roll world is a tough one in that sense.
He told me in the past they were rigging when totally out of their heads on coke, even when approx 50m high. And in those days I doubt safety harnesses were mandatory.

You're more than welcome to the club, haha.

At the age of 11, I came to the realization that my fathers abusive behavior was amplified by his alcoholism. I made the choice in that moment to not follow his example. Only once have I had a sip of beer, and only once a sip of whiskey. The thought of intoxicating myself with any substance is repulsive to me.

my last partner was an alcoholic and abusive, this definitely makes me concerned about drinking amounts and what may come with.

I can drink a 6 pack of india pale ale during an evening of video gaming -but I can go without it, too. If IPA was not so yummy, I would likely ....well, save money buying cheap beer -but also drink less.

I like drinking, but not actually getting to the point of being "drunk" -and sometimes falling asleep quickly is a bonus. I get relaxed -but then just want to sleep. Drinking anything during the day is unpleasant partly for that reason.

chocolate bock
coconut porter

stop making beer yummy! :(

The gf and I drink about 4 beers each on the weekends.
I keep a stocked liquor cabinet but have no tolerance for liquor anymore.
I keep it for visitors in case they want a drink.
I try to keep a bottle of wine in the fridge.
The one in there now has been in there about a month.
GF and I will have wine with dinner sometimes and sometimes while cuddling on the floor watching movies or listening to music.

I once dated a woman who drank everything she could find. Then she would try to cover it up by adding water. Needless to say, she also had a bad attitude about life. I'm glad she's gone.

I'm not interested in heavy drinkers either. But there is a big difference between that and a person that sometimes has a beer or 2 after work and/or on weekends.

According to a report I saw recently, since lockdown 40% of UK adults have started drinking what are described as "dangerous" amounts of alcohol.
That must be at least 10% higher than usual. Fortunately, I've always been a lightweight where alcohol consumption is concerned.

Yeah, but it's quite self-explanatory that heavy drinkers and people who get drunk are not desired by anyone except if they're alcoholic themselves.

But the ones who do what you say: drink 1 or 2 beers after work. And maybe more during the weekends, for instance start with a couple during the afternoon.

Would you be okay with that?

I look at like this...at some point you got to get out of the "High Schooler" mentality and mature. That means giving up partying with all the drugs and alcohol and get down to the real business of life itself. I dont drink but I am addicted to cigarettes and coffee...a leftover legacy from many many years in the military. And, sorry, I have ZERO tolerance for drugs. I have ended a few friendships because of their drug use, you just cannot trust a drug user in my mind.
