There are times when it's great, and other times when it's not so great.

Believe it or not, most people who are alone are alone by their own choices.
Whether it be fear or stubbornness or just lack of motivation.

If you are alone, look first at yourself and make the changes you need to become otherwise.

It depends on your state of mind. I am very happy being single and I am yet to meet anyone who has changed my mind about it :grinning:

I've been divorced for over 7 years. Have to admit, felt somewhat lost for about a year. Then got back on the bike and haven't looked back. In fact, I prefer 'living' alone, but not 'being' alone.

Is it bad to want a partner to be with and want them to be nice to you? Do people still want to be together anymore?

It is awesome being single most of the time. I only miss being in a relationship every now and then. No woman, no cry.

If what you mean by being single is having no relationship for a long time..Mmmm..actually its a mixed feelings haha. The advantage for me is that I have more time for myself. Since I don't have anyone beside me aside from my family, I learned to train myself to be strong and independent to protect those people who love me. Its like my family becomes a center of my life and my attention is focus on how to make myself stronger each day. I am not saying that you cannot do all those things if you are in a relationship.. For me life is about priorities and its about how we think things that makes it positive or negative ..its your outlook in life.. The disadvantage for me is during those times that i fail and no one is there to comfort me..sometimes your trying to seek someone..Well I'm always telling myself that God has a better plan for :)

It feels like missing the good stuff but that feeling is overwhelmed by not missing everything that comes with a relationship gone south.

The more we learn, the more picky we are.

It's the proverbial double edged sword. I've dated a few times over the last two decades, but nothing substantial developed from them. The main thing I learned is that there's a huge difference between wanting someone and needing someone. I want someone in my life to share my life with. However, I understand that it's going to take time. I've become picky in my older age compared to how I was even ten years ago. I like my space and my solitude and I don't always want to have company. Yet, there are some things that I think would be better with someone there to share it with.

No, it's not bad to want that. Your partner should your soft place to fall and be your comfort zone. If they are not treating you well, dump them. No one should have to be verbally or physically abused.

I've been single for 20 years now. I'll most likely stay that way but choice. That said I would probably settle down for the right lady should I ever meet her.

It depends on how you feel on your own, your state of mind and what you got going for yourself in life.

Also what Cat asked, what is long? Some find 1 day alone unbearable and make sure there's replacement before the old partner walks out the door, others can be alone for years.

I do find that I get more selective as I get a little older and wiser. Not pickier, that's not the right word.
But I know better now what I need to be happy and what is not going to work. So in that sense it's a more focused search.
I have no interest in dating for the heck of it when I know full well it won't ever go anywhere.

The old joke is "single, not dead."

But I've been single so long that I am, in fact, dead.
