I think in many languages "mama" is known :)
In Dutch we also use that although mostly when children are still young. When they get older it's 'ma' or 'mam'.
My daughter sometimes types 'mama' though in a WhatsApp message for instance, and she turns 29 Thursday next.
That always makes me melt, it's so sweet!

In any case... my daughter is coming over in a bit. My son sent me a voice message. He can't come over as he's the chef cook in a restaurant and has to work.
But I'm happy both thought of it. Me is feeling the Mama Day vibe for sure!

In Scotland we don’t say mom or mommy. It’s usually mum and if you speak slang then you would say ‘maw’, ‘ma’ or ‘mammy’.

Yes, and what I noticed with my English friends, they use 'mum' as well, not 'mom'. So I guess that's AmE.

You’re right Crystal, seems to be American English.

My friends and I don’t speak slang but one of my friends calls her mum “my wee maw’ as her mum is 4’7 whereas my friend is 5’8 bigsmile

Oul wan (Old one) would be like Dublin slang for your mom

In Ireland, "Mothering Sunday" is also celebrated on a different day, I think, 3 weeks before Easter Sunday.

Anyway, as it stands, this will be my last Mother's Day in Ireland anyway.

Aye. As soon as my compensation claim is settled, I start packing. But I go over in July first, to do some paperwork and organisational stuff. It will take til the end of the year, or early next year, but the decision to move back, is final. My parents are not well, and they need me.

Good for you Larsi! Always honor your mother and father for they can be gone in the blink of an eye. I wasn't around when my mother passed and I will always regret that decision. So make the most of your time with them.
