Could have something to do with a fear that if their penis is inactive it will atrophy . But I am not a psychologist  hope you find the answer to your question

Personally I think the reason is that we are in Alpha brainwaves in the evening, deeper Alpha the later at night, until we go to bed.
This makes us more relaxed as opposed to the Beta brainwaves of the day when we're mostly run by stress hormones. Also, the term morning wood doesn't seem to be entirely correct ---> in the quizzes on a dating site loads of men as "What can I wake you up for at night?" So I guess for many it's "night wood", not morning wood. |

This occurs when someone with a penis gets an erection in the middle of the night or the early morning hours while they are sleeping. If you have morning wood, you may often wake up with an erection. Another name for morning wood is morning glory. |

Me, I figure this way:
1] my mind is cleared, and is now more receptive, since the days worries are behind me; 2] night time is when couples are more physically intimate (if they share the same bed) than during the day, so as adults in relationships, we are somewhat trained by this familiar activity. Just my 2 cents. |
